Don't know how I missed this. McCoy is my all-time favorite "jazz" pianist. Quotes because while he did dozens of truly definitive bop LPs, his incredibly adventurous, ambitious Post-Coltrane efforts from the mid-late 60s on combined many different elements of fusion, rock, pop, soul, etc. He was that unique traditionalist who also went his own way and created his own style for 50 years and the breadth of his catalogue is astonishing. I'm rocking out to the muscular, almost symphonic "Songs of the New World" as I write this... huge melodic note clusters just flying off that ridiculous right hand... RIP to the best of the best.
