That impressive beard immediately made me think of the giant from Space:1999 5 (I bought it new off the rack circa 1975?) Can't find the right image and perhaps I'm stretching it, but is it possible you used yourself as a model for said character?

The other day I decided to trim away every individual gray hair on my beard but my hand slipped so I'll be avoiding photos and videos until the quarter-sized divot I carved into my chin grows back.

Reminds me of an episode of THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW. Laura is distraught when she finds her first grey hair. Rob tells her she can just pluck them as they come. That way she will stay the way he loves her, “young and bald”.
