Right now, Big Finish is giving away a free audio on their website until April 12th. From what I understand, they may be giving away a different one after that.

It is a War Doctor adventure called The Innocent.

Big Finish stuff is fun...some limitations, but overall, fun. It is interesting
though, to run across someone who is so good on screen, but comes across
less so on audio only.

I will say that David Tennant IS The Doctor...he can drop back into character
amazingly. Also really enjoy Tom Baker's stuff. I've listened to a number of
McGann's Doctor as well as a number of TORCHWOOD episodes.

What I do like is that they sometimes give away the first episodes of serials away for free, so you can give them a try. I haven't been able to buy any yet, but I like that I can at least get a taste. I'd definitely grab some Fourth and Sixth Doctor shows if I could afford to. Its sad to hear what could have been if Colin Baker got to play a proper Doctor, rather than the sanctimonious jerk that Six was on tv.

They also give away complete adventures or long excerpts (not always Doctor Who, though) for free occasionally, but often they're only for newsletter subscribers (they send you a code). This latest one being free for all is an exception. The last one they gave newsletter subscribers was a Sixth Doctor one featuring Frobisher. I have it, but haven't listened to it yet.

Sadly, Bob, they've been doing some Tenth Doctor shows with someone other than Tennant in the role. I wouldn't even download a free excerpt of those, if they were made available.

They have runs of "stories" (for lack of a better term) featuring a Doctor that
seem more of enhanced audio books which often don't feature the actor...I've
only purchased the audio adventures with the actual actors (more akin to old
time radio dramas). It would have to be a very compelling story for me to
purchase a non-adventure/drama.

They've also got some storied with other actors playing the First, Second and Third Doctors. The First (before they brought David Bradley onboard) and Second were actually played by actors who played their companions. Peter Purves (Steven) and Frazer Hines (Jamie).

Tim Treloar does a pretty decent Third Doctor, from what I've heard. Peter Purves was a decent First, but Frazer Hines as the Second...not so much. He had the mannerisms down, but the imitation is not great.
