I had thought the intent of making Mrs. Butterworth clear
was to grossly exploit the color of the bottle's content.

(No, it ain't maple syrup!)

I think the hair style and clothing of Mrs. Butterworth represent a more white and matronly style than the "Mammy" look.
Think Mrs. Doubtfire.

The model for the Mrs Butterworth bottle was Thelma “Butterfly”
McQueen. She played Scarlett's maid in GWTW. If your intent was to
have your product be a white woman, why would you model it after a
black one?

Pardon my ignorance but is there something that says "happy slave" about the words Aunt and Uncle ? To me, the current -updated- images and brand names Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben don't carry that meaning...As long as the old matronly scarf, phoney bowtie and exaggerated features are no longer there, I don't see what the problem is...But I'm only a foreigner so...

If Daniel Snyder was smart he would see that changing his team's name would be extremely profitable - rebranding in sports means a lot of merchandise being sold.

Of course if Daniel Snyder was smart. he would have changed the team name long ago and made himself look better rather than the owner dragging his heels and only changing the team name when he absolutely has too.

Hogs, Pigskins, Redhawks, whatever it takes.  It's well past the time to get it done.

Are you overlooking the fact that for many people any new name will be seen as an equivalent, even tho it's not meant to be?

I thought she was the model for Aunt Jemima.

(Unrelated: Remembering when LAUGH-IN used to run humorous copy across the bottom of the screen. One such was "Happy Anniversary to Steve and Butterfly McQueen.")

Not that I've seen. I can't find that AJ had a bottle shaped like a
person.

Okay, I’m mixing up Butterfly McQueen with Hattie McDaniel.
