A gas has just been found in Venus that is usually created by microbes.

This article is more serious and has a more scientific approach:

Venus Might Host Life, New Discovery Suggests: The unexpected atmospheric detection of phosphine, a smelly gas made by microbes on Earth, could spark a revolution in astrobiology

And this other article has some cool diagrams in case you're tired or busy and don't want to read too much:

SPACE NEIGHBOURS: Sign of LIFE on Venus in extraordinary discovery of Earth-like gas in atmosphere

Finding life elsewhere in the Solar System really doesn’t answer the Big Question, since it could be originating from a common source (such as Earth).

Regardless of origin, finding life elsewhere in the solar system would undercut the (I believe wrong) idea that the Earth is specially suited for life, where I would say there is plenty of evidence that the reverse true and life became suited toward it.

The Earth itself routinely undercuts the notion that it is specially tailored for life. Aside from the fact that only about 2% of the surface will comfortably support humans in our natural state, 70% would kill us in about a minute, and Earth is full of extremophiles who thrive without any of the “required” ingredients.

Very much what I was referring to when I said evidence, yet the crude notion of the "Goldilocks zone" still comes up in discussions (and documentaries) about life on other worlds all the time.  If all the biomes that support life on Earth were used to define a "Goldilocks zone" it would be much larger, or at least more context sensitive. For example, that graph I posted years ago that showed the concentrations of oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere with OSHA safety limits superimposed to show the large periods of life on Earth where the atmosphere wasn't habitable for humans but there was yet plenty of life.  Humans can breathe in the areas where the graph is red:

We're obviously "tuned" for how it is now.

This is a “debate” I’ve had many times with my more religious friends. They insist the Earth, indeed the Universe (“Creation” in their lingo) is fine tuned for Us, and will not even consider that it is we who have adapted to existing conditions.

This takes me back to my teens, when Venus was a jungle planet and—appropriate here—there were giant jellyfish sailing the high winds of Jupiter.

Perhaps we can hope for something like that in the unpleasant (to us) clouds of our “sister planet”.

Next, the Mekon!

FADE IN:

EXT. VENUS - DUSK

Through a heatweave shimmer we see vast volcanoes belch lava and dust over a barren landscape.

COLONEL DAN DARE (V.O.):
The greatest trick the Mekon ever pulled was convincing the world Venus had no life.

What do you guys think of the whole Bob Lazar/Area 51 report/story? Do you think that there is any validity to his story?

Rick, the short answer is I'd love to believe every word as it's a great yarn.  But reason tells me that it's a pile o' hooey.

I've heard Lazar tell his story more than once. He's had many years to fine tune his tale to make it sound believable, maybe even to the point where he may actually believe it himself.
I bet he would pass a lie detector test.

Well, it's true there is an Area 51--but that's about it.
