There's more detail in that one panel than some artists put in a whole book...•• Just so someone can't spring up to take me to task for this, I'll point out this is not, strictly speaking, "detail". For decades, in fact, I've called it "argle-bargle"--random shapes that fill space and look like something is really going on, but are kind of a zen exercise, where my mind drifts off to contemplate life, the universe and everything. Something I could not do with true "detail".

The other X-Men had better get into the game real fast or Kitty's going up against Dark Phoenix alone... and that won't be good.
JB, you've said this before about "argle-bargle" and noted something similar about doing Ben Grimm's rocky plates. How long did it take for you to reach this point, where you can let your hand work on auto-pilot?

Something I could not do with true "detail". ** You do "argue-bargle" better than anyone in the industry. I've studied it since I was kid, and it wasn't until I stopped looking for the details that I actually started to see them. It taught me one of my first lessons about how humans see things. Another thing I enjoy is how more mature and realistic your female figures have become over the years. You definitely notice this when you compare Jean 2020 to Jean 1980.

JB, you've said this before about "argle-bargle" and noted something similar about doing Ben Grimm's rocky plates. How long did it take for you to reach this point, where you can let your hand work on auto-pilot?•• QUITE a long time--but let me disabuse you of a misconception. Ben's rocky plates are NOT "argel-bargle". I have to "stay in control" when I pencil/ink those, to make sure they properly follow the contours of his body. You may be conflating here with times when I have said I do no try to keep the pattern consistent, except on the face.

Your Kitty is such a normal kid hero. She's awesome in this.
The depth created in that last panel as she pulls Wolverine down through the earth is really convincing. Take that, overwrought 3D coloring! The whole swimming and floating effect of this page works great.

There's something funny about a kid whos SWIMMING THRU THE EARTH complaining about something else being unnatural. It absolutely feels like something a teen would say.
