What a tribute today during John Lewis' service in Atlanta. Barack Obama,
George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton all in attendance and giving great remarks.
And written remarks from Jimmy Carter as well, although he could not travel.

Such a sad loss, but he certainly lived life to its fullest. The coverage of what
he went through when protesting using nonviolence is terrifying to watch. The
courage of those who participate in nonviolent protests/demonstrations is
substantial. I hope we continue to see this in use with our current protests.
It's certainly complicated with white supremacists knocking out windows
during marches to stoke violence, but I am confident that the persistence of
today's diverse protestors will prevail. A ray of hope during hopeless times.

Comics and living history met when John Lewis led kids in a march around the Comic Con floor while cosplaying as his younger self the fateful day he walked the Pettus Bridge.  He was promoting his graphic novel, MARCH that chronicled his life as a activist.

And Comic Con was never cooler....

Have any of us as Americans?  I submit that white America suffers in its own way due to America’s inherent racism.  When you see video of these maniacal, racist morons screaming and acting out of rage because someone of a darker skin color is in their heads doing “something” to piss them off....I think they are in their own kind of hell.  Imagine living with that ignorance.

Who knows what this nation would be had it not been built on slavery?   Most likely it would have never come to be.  And then where would the world be?  An Elsewhen story for the ages.

Any comparison between White Americans "suffering" and what Black Americans have gone thru is insensitive beyond measure.

I would agree.  Said not to find sympathy.  But to make the point that all Americans are losers in the bargain.  Some lose more than others.

You're still comparing one kind of "suffering" to another.

I'm reminded of a scene in the pilot of the old IRONSIDE television series. Chief Ironside, who was paralyzed from the waist down, had just hired a young Black man, who references the hard life he's had.

"Why?" says Ironside. "Because you're Black? Well paint me Black and let me walk out of here."

"That's because you've never been Black," says the young man. "If you had, you'd say paint me White and put me in an iron lung."
