...daaaaaaaaamn.
Another reminder (if needed) that Storm is a mighty force in her own right.

I whole-heartedly agree that the changes that were made to Storm after your departure where a total mess. Her character was fundamentally changed for the worse, and in a way that was not the least bit interesting.

I have no doubt that had you neglected a post today, you'd make up for it. You're very fair about your stories.

That Dark Phoenix pose in the first panel is gorgeous. I don't know why... it just is. Of course, your art never needs a reason to be gorgeous!

The resolute fire on Storm's face is a delight, and makes me think that maybe - just maybe - she and Jean can put up a credible fight against Dark Phoenix. Now add a freed Cyclops, undoubtedly pissed... and suddenly, you've got a fight on your hands. Throw in Jahf, and I'm awfully intrigued about this coming conflict!

It'll be a shame not to see the original X-Men in this donnybrook, but you just had a battle royale everyone-but-Howard-the-Duck issues... it'd be too much too soon again.

And I agree that Ororo got mistreated incredibly in the next X-storyline against Dr. Doom. "Rogue Storm" indeed... the gut twists at the thought.

Speaking of Ororo, it seems she looks more "African" now than in your original story. Indeed, she reminds me a bit of Beyonce.

Is this an evolution of your approach to the character?
Is this a consequence of the small changes due to the inking of Terry Austin in the 80s?
Is this an evolution of your drawing style?
Or none of that, just that I have to change my glasses ...

JB - What were your feelings on Storm taking over as field leader when Cyclops left?

Now THAT is a double page spread whose making isn't measured by the time the pencil touched the paper, but by the decades the artist honed his craft! Quite possibly the most stunning comic book art I have ever seen!

@Eric: Yes! The body position of Phoenix caught my eye too! Like a puppeteer playing with Cyclops. Striking.

Also: I spy Prof. X's hot-water heater in the rubble. If they survive, the X-men are going to be taking some cold showers!

That double page is stupendous. The figures, the backgrounds, the foregrounds, the lighting...

Damn, am I ever glad that our host is treating us to this.

It was my idea, so I was fine with it!
