While I do have the ability to buy
the channel, I’m hardly going to do it sight unseen for one show.

They show six hours of a different Trek show every weeknight.  A glance at their online schedule shows exactly what you would be getting.   If you choose no, that’s fine, but subscribing is hardly a leap of faith.

Looking at some "reviews" on YouTube I'm actually pleased to note the hard, hard, hard core trekkies seem to really dislike this show. ("An abomination"? Time to buy a dictionary!)

Anyway, that in itself is a high score for me!

Why is this “ridiculous” and “silly”?

Not to me, I see an opportunity for good writers.

Some people take themselves waaaaaay too serious.

LOWER DECKS is, pretty much, what I thought THE ORVILLE was
gonna be when it was first announced.

Lower Decks has been fun so far.

And in Canada, it's available on both the CTV Sci-fi channel and Crave TV if streaming is your thing.

Yes, THE ORVILLE turned out to be sci-fi with humor, rather than funny sci-fi. LOWER DECKS leans full into the comedy.

Which is why some fans hate it, of course. Same problem I had with SHE-HULK.

I enjoyed the second episode, especially the bridge/command
simulation and the children. I don't laugh out loud much
that that cracked me up. I like how this is the "What else
happens on a starship" show.

And my 8-year old likes it (yeah, it's TV-14) and is
getting interested. My dad got me into Star Trek with TOS,
I'm getting mine into Trek with Lower Decks.

I hope your kid isn’t disappointed by the sombre, often gloomy tone of so much post-TOS TREK.

I don't think he will be. He's watched some TNG, and a
little TOS here and there.

Funny story: When he was 2 and in his bouncy seat, eating,
I was flipping through the channels and caught Star Trek
III as it came on. I watched for a while and then turned
the channel because once it starts, I can play the entire
movie in my head. Well, this kid CRIED when I turned the
channel and was glued to the TV until it was over.

I enjoyed the first episode on YouTube, but am reluctant to add yet another streaming service to the Disney+, Hulu, Netflix and Prime I already have...
