Netflix has announced the follow-up to "The Haunting of Hill House" will release on October 9.

I thought "Hill House" was tremendous - spooky and unsettling while at the same time being deeply emotional.

I'm hoping the new story can carry that same sort of weight.

Looking forward to it, for sure!

Just finished Bly Manor (have not watched Hill House, but intend to now).

I really liked it. Creepy, sad, elegiacal. Really well done.

Well done, emotional
story, but not scary
at all. There were
more scares in the
previous series.

Halfway through, and it's not doing much for me so far. I know they had British writers, but this is a very American take on the UK. And the heavy-handed diversity is - well, heavy handed.

Not enough straight white people on it you mean.  The actress who played the maid did an amazing job and she’s one of them minorities you don’t like looking at.

I've just eaten, Mike, so there's no need to put words in my mouth.

What do you mean then, Mr. Brake? I liked the cast a lot. Was glad it wasn't lily white or plain Jane.

It's meant to be an upper, or upper-middle class, community in the English countryside in the 1980s.

Believe it or not, but that wasn't then, and still isn't now, the most multi-racial society.

By all means have representation - Notting Hill isn't as white as Notting Hill, the film, showed it as being, and Hugh Grant made a cheeky quip about this at some awards ceremony - but some of the casting in Bly Manor felt well-intentioned rather than convincing.

Each to their own! If you enjoyed it, that's all that should matter to you.

Yup, sanctimony is the new black. Just goes so well with anything these days.

Steven. with all the things I can accept in sci-fi/fantasy,
a higher percentage of minorities than you would typically find in England
doesn't even register anymore. It's about ghosts, for goodness sake!

I can accept that the huts run the crime syndicates even thought they appear
to be able to barely move, that glasses disguise clark Kent, that no one has
noticed the insanity rates around Miskatonic U.

Like they say in frozen, let it go!

@Paul:

I'm not the one overreacting! As I've said before, each to their own.
