Love Tom Palmer's inks over JB's pencils, also with Colan, John Buscema and Neal Adams.
*****
Palmer was hit or miss over John's pencils for me; never "bad," just not always "perfect." I'm totally with you on the other three, though... can't say I ever recall anything but stellar Palmer results over any of them.

My all-time favorite inkers were Giordano and Sinnott,
but I also like(d) Tanghal, Marcos, Rubinstein,
Austin, and Janson.

I'm not listing artists who often/usually ink
themselves, e.g. Byrne, Perez, Ordway, et. al.

Breeding is my favorite over Jurgens and Hall.

I didn't like Bruce D. Patterson over Perez, but he
was my favorite over Staton and Cullins.

Later, I liked Williams, Thibert, Hanna, Morales,
Miki, and Rapmund. Williams might be my current
favorite.

If we're talking about X-MEN: THE HIDDEN YEARS then I really don't get the dislike of Palmer's inks over JB's pencils. The art was meant to evoke the Adams/Palmer pairing in X-MEN in 1969. It worked beautifully.

I'd also argue that Gene Colan, Neal Adams and John Buscema never had a better inker than Palmer. Is he appropriate for every penciller? No. Neither are many others. (Imagine Klaus Janson over George Perez. Would not work. At all.) But Palmer is my favorite inker just for his work with those three people.

Terry Austin has a totally different style but I love the Byrne/Austin "blend" -- never better than on those very few issues of SUPERMAN that Austin inked -- so he gets my #2 spot. He also did great work with other pencillers -- Marshall Rogers and Walt Simonson come immediately to mind. (Though I'll admit that when Rogers and Simonson inked themselves the result wasn't drastically different.)

The work of Gil Kane and Sal Buscema and Frank Miller never looked better than with Klaus Janson's inks.

I was thinking more of Starbrand. I just struggled to see much of JB's style in those pages.

If I recall, Palmer was finishing breakdowns on STARBRAND, so it
would make sense you’d see even more of him in the finished product.

I will agree with this but add “The Last Galactus Story” to that list. It’s
the same level of greatness as those three SUPERMAN issues.

Would have loved to see Palmer ink JB on SUPERMAN. Nothing
against the Austin or Kesel stuff; I love that to pieces.

Brett Breeding's my favorite Dan Jurgens inker. I don't
know what it is but I really don't care for Norm Rapmund's
work over Jurgens. Too lightweight and scratchy for my
taste.

I'm interested in perfect matches with penciler and inker-
I'm a believer in Pablo Marcos over John Buscema as best pairing for Big John Buscema.
I am rereading JB's FF and really feel like Byrne on Byrne is an incredible pairing.
Romeo Tanghal over George Perez was an incredible fit, I think.
Bob Mcleod over Mike Zeck was also choice.
