Some may recall I did this particular issue to "fix" Chekov in my own mind. The character just didn't "real" to me, not having been there in the First Season of TOS, but being basically dropped into the mix as if he had.

Then, too, there was the (in)famous scene where Khan remembers Chekov, something that has spawned countless rude jokes across fandom.

By doing this story, I corrected both those problems, at least in my own mind, and made Chekov "real" at last.

Amazing that he was already 31 when he first appeared on TOS as a mere Ensign who has to say “I’m not that green”.  I think he fooled most people into thinking he was 21 at the time.
