I was quite pleased to see a couple of nice mentions of JB when watching some of the panels for the DC Fandome event yesterday.

Firstly Frank Miller shared a story about how when he was creating the Dark Knight Returns he was very recluctant to include Robin in the story. But he recounted that whilst sharing a flight with him JB was the one to suggest to Frank that he should have a female Robin. And it was this that led him to create the Carrie Kelley of that story.

I honestly did not know that. But am grateful that Mr Byrne had that influence there, as without it I feel the Dark Knight Returns would just be all darkness, darkness, darkness!

And then in the panel for the upcoming Superman and Lois tv show, Jim Lee, who was moderating, mentioned JB's rather genius way of using negative space to visualize the Superman sign with the whole 'two fishes' way of looking at it.

And this actually led him to demonstrate it, with the lead cast of Tyler Hoechlin (Superman) and Bitsie Tulloch (Lois Lane) and the new serie's showrunner all trying to recreate it in the same way. Suffice it to say, although they weren't too bad, (they actually did put some real effort into it,) none of them could quite do so as effortlessly as JB would have. (And that's including Jim Lee!)

But it was a nice tip of the hat to our illustrious host!

I wish Mr. Byrne had suggested to Miller that he just forget the whole thing.

I think it's great that Miller and Lee acknowledged JB's contribution. I revisited
THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS last year and can't imagine it without Robin.

My idea for a female Robin came, of course, from Jill St. John on BATMAN (1966).

Not the only ideas Jill St. John circa 1966 inspired...!
