Or else it was the product of space aliens, crafted by hitherto unsuspected indigenous American technology, or a time-inverted artifact of future post-humanity.

Obviously an homage to 2001. But to fabricate the replica (if it actually is metal) would not have been cheap. To transport it, most likely by helicopter, would have given away the surprise. There could only be so many helicopter companies in the area, and inquiries into moving a metal block into the desert would get tongues wagging. So someone has private access to a helicopter to do this.

Yes, the report says the deep desert which suggests not someplace with easy access to public roads. At the very least a heavy all terrain vehicle and some burly gentlemen and shovels. Or squiggly tentacled squids in a flying saucer.

I’m not saying it’s aliens, but it’s not aliens.

Even if it's metal that doesn't mean it's solid. It's a shame one of them didn't hit it with something to see if it sounded hollow. I suspect it's panels screwed to a frame.

Not long now before it's either destroyed by some idiot, or taken down by whomever is responsible for the land. Too many people are going to make the trek to go to look at it.
