There have been a whole slough of comics and series, and obviously DC and Marvel are desperate to get sales up.

So if you were to help... what would you like to see back? We can discuss new books some other time. Right back from 1938... who deserves a review? Or their own book?

I'd like to limit your choices to three. Any character, any era, and you can define if they're hip deep in crossovers and continuity, or if they are, for the most part, standalone.

My three are:

The Marvel Family - In continuity with Earth-S. I miss Billy, Freddy, and Mary a whole lot (and even Hill, Tall, and Fat a little bit.) Whomever it is at DC, they've decided that the way to try to make the Marvels popular is to complicate them and drag them into the current era. I've no use for that. I'd LOVE a good old fashioned Marvel Family vs Sivana family knock down drag out again!

Brave and the Bold - I love team ups. B&B, Showcase, DC Comics Presents, Super-Team Family... you name it, I enjoy it! Mark Waid tried it a few years ago, and I thought he handled it well. Then Straczynski  picked it up, and while I still liked the concept - and even one or two of the stories - his writing style didn't appeal to me. And then, the newest Brave and the Bold #28 had The Flash and Blackhawk. They should have put that in #29... NO sense of legacy, and that put me off.

Mostly, I'd like to see a new Challengers of the Unknown. This is a series that could be the eyes and ears of the new DC Universe (whichever goddam version we're on.) I just want to see the four death cheaters in fun adventure stories. Maybe with a guest star or two (I think that the Human Target and Nemesis would both fit into the Challs adventures), maybe a crossover or two (the Challs and the Doom Patrol seemed on the cusp of an annual team up) - but something to honor Jack Kirby and all the others ono that book. I'd especially love to see Mr. Byrne do a six issue span on CotU if he were not the impetus of the book.

What would you like to see back? From any company?

It's not so much a series I want back, as a time period.

Shadowhawk
Young Heroes In Love
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents - Preferrably ignoring anything after either the original series or the Deluxe Comics series.

Without a specific artist or creative team attached to
it, I find myself mildly surprised that I don't want
anything back. Instead, I find myself longing for a
return to a certain time period, like John mentioned
above. Surely, the golden age of comics is 12, and what
a time it was!

I would love to see Miracleman continued (from where Neil
Gaiman left off)... and finished!

I agree with JB but if I had to pick a title it would be The Question if this is limited to superhero stuff otherwise it would be Southern Bastards.

I would love to see facsimile editions of the '50s Atlas comics... especially Bill Everett Sub-Mariners! The Black Knight by Joe Maneely is another idea! I used to have a fair little stack of Lorna The Jungle Girl/Queen and there was some decent writing and art there too so I'm very much impressed by that period generally but a lot of it's always been out of reach.

I think for new comics series I believe they should by all means do whatever kids will want to read, if that's even possible. Even if it breaks the established continuity, because I'm not sure the humble comic book is even going to be something that exists at all in the future.

A slough is a curiously apt term for Marvel and DC's output.

Mr. Byrne hit it on the head.   My Comic Book Way Back machine is set on 1980.  Thats my pretty much my personal sweet spot for comics.  Rewind everything back to “then”....and let it roll forward from there with the rules that got us to that point fairly set in stone.  I’d be a happy lad.

At DC, I'd like to see them give series (with powerful, talented creative teams of course) to all the characters they've acquired from other companies and also all the Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko characters they have--

BLUE BEETLE (Ted Kord version)
CAPTAIN ATOM
THE CREEPER
THE QUESTION
KAMANDI
OMAC
NEW GODS
ORION
MR. MIRACLE
THE DEMON
CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN
--all in NORMAL series (not artsy/weird like they've been doing with some of these), perhaps fashioned after the Marvel style of the 1960's to early 1980's.

Over at Marvel, there are a few that are missed--
DEFENDERS (the Steve Gerber or the David Kraft team)
GHOST RIDER (Johnny Blaze)
MARVEL TEAM-UP
THE FALCON
