Apparently, the vaccines are curing some of the lingering symptoms
that long haul COVID patients had. Doctors think the extra boost to
their immune system did the trick. Pretty amazing stuff!

Just been done with the Astra Zeneca (Oxford) jab.

No effects as of yet, let's see what the next 24 hours
brings.

A massive shout out to the scientists who developed these
vaccines. The UK has an honours system, at the 2012
Olympics, there started to give honours to any gold medal
winner.

I really want to see these scientists in the next list.

I had the Astra Zeneca jab on Tuesday, no ill effects
yet other than a slightly sore arm where the injection
went in, no more painful than a bruise.

At my local hospital, all the ER doctors got the second dose on the same day.   Half of them called in sick the next day.

My wife, mother, and mother in law have all had a first dose.  They just report sore arms.

That's just poor planning by the hospital.

Who has seen or experienced vaccine shaming? I have.  Not shaming in the sense that you or someone you know got it, but shaming for "jumping the line" or "getting it before me" kind of stuff.

For the record, I'm over 50 and haven't been able to get the first dose.

And, quite frankly, I don't care. Not directed to anyone here in this thread, so please don't feel like you have to defend getting a lifesaving vaccine, but it's not my business to meddle in your business about how or why you got a vaccine shot.  I'm just happy that you did.

Can I feel a little envious?  Sure.  But what I've seen posted on social media as replies to people who are enthusiastic to have gotten their first or second shot is, quite frankly, mind-blowing.  I've read countless posts calling people out who, on the surface, seem to be unqualified simply because of their age only to eventually discover that a particular person qualifies by a health condition that they should never have been forced to share.

I just don't get why we, as a community, can't accept that there's no understanding every intimate detail of someone's personal life and just celebrate that they are now ostensibly safe.  As much as I want to be inoculated, there are certainly large groups of people who need to be inoculated before I am and I'm cool with that.

Is that really so hard?

My wife & I took a decision that we would not try to book a test before
we were told we could do so.

However, I know of a number of people who have out & out lied about
their situation - claiming to be careers when they are not, claiming
illnesses that they don’t have. All while living a lifestyle that suggests
the virus doesn’t exist - happily moving between houses & family
members, having get together etc.

So, there are some I absolutely sympathise with, but there are others
that definitely have a mentality of ‘I deserve this’ when really, they don’t,
they are just trying to jump a queue.

I get that.  Honestly, I do.

But at at the end of the day....OK.  What can you do?

Every shot in an arm is that much closer to herd immunity.

Are there fucks that game the system to get ahead of those more needy?
Sure.  Happens all the time.  In every situation possibly imaginable.

But my focus, my real focus, is on people who honestly deserve to get the vaccine based on factors not associated with age.  And who then become shamed because of it.

That's absolutely absurd, but it's happening all the time.

My wife had hers 6 weeks ago, the same time as my 80
year old mom,as she is on immuno-supressive meds. I had
to wait for my age group to be called. But i do know of
people who have got a vaccine by outright lies and
claiming to be a carer too. You will always get cheats
whatever the situation. I also know of people who have
fiddled the Track and Trace system to get "free" time
off work.

Matt, I have no issue whatsoever with younger people getting the jab
legitimately. Absolutely, vulnerable groups should get it before me,
people who are essential workers in high risk situations, such as
nursing etc, should also be a priority.

& those should not be shamed in any way.
