...does anybody else have an affection for them? As a kid, I remember my heart skipping a beat when I saw them in a newspaper agents.

Nice cheap reprints, 100 pages, no adverts, five or six stories, lots of readers - why don't DC still do them?

Such a bargain. I have dozens and they served as my first viewings of many tough to find or expensive comics I later bought which I might never have otherwise discovered like Superman 149 had I not first seen them in reduced form. I was going to add Batman 251 to that list but I'm sure I would have eventually bit the bullet because that was such a definitive Neal Adams issue.

I always got the Year's Best ones, and the ones for series i was interested in were like a quick grounding, especially that Doom Patrol one about when Mento and Robotman were appearing in New Teen Titans!

There was another with a selection of excellent DC war comics than made me look at many Sgt. Fury comics in scorn from then on.

I love these books and have many of them.  The digests were where I discovered Neal Adams work in "The Joker's Five Way Revenge"  In best of Blue Ribbon Digest #2, All Batman stories.

The Superfriend's digest introduced me to the Teen Titans just at the time when Wolfman and Perez would release their series.

I have many of the Superman digests.  These were where I got to read some of the best past Superman stories or at least more historically known, like where Superman was trapped under a red sun, or the "Imaginary" tale where Lex kills Superman.

The digest were great inexpensive ways to learn comic book history.  Marvel toyed with putting digest books out a few years back, but they couldn't get the Archie space at the stores.

Archie knows how to move comics.

The Marvel digests from a few years ago were published and distributed by Archie.

I don't really see Archie digests on the newsstands anymore.

I am a complete sucker for these. I was young enough to fall hook line and sinker for anything that said "COLLECTOR'S ITEM" on the cover. Later I realized these collections often had the advantage of being filled with truly great classic comics.

I love the size and thickness -- just everything about Blue Ribbon Digests gets me.

Really? I didn't know that. Interesting that Marvel made a deal with another comic company like that.

Anyway, I did buy this one sight unseen:

They have a current deal with IDW which publishes a line of Marvel books aimed at younger readers.
