Remember that there is nothing Americans love more and do better than articulating what they are against more than what they are for. So many of the voters that  pulled for Trump in 2020 would tell you that they had major reservations about Trump but that they LOATHE the other side, and that is what drove their vote (Usually for one-issue concerns like immigration or abortion). The devil you know and all that.

For clarity for American readers, (and correct me if I am wrong), unless there have been some changes in the Parliamentary System, Blair didn't win reelection, his Party did.

Correct. I should have been a bit clearer.

The devil you know…

•••

Trouble is, Trumpelstiltskin ISN’T the devil anybody knows. He is a shifting construct, playing to whatever various parts of his constituency want—in the process forcing them to choose from Column A while ignoring what’s in Column B and Column C.

Is he a degenerate profligate with three wives and who knows how many affairs and how much adultery? No matter! Vote for him because he’s “pro-life”!

That’s what I really cannot understand (well, one of the things I cannot
understand).

QAnon rubbish such as Pizzagate, the whole paedophilia gang etc -
there’s no evidence of any of it.

But Trump has actually SAID he just walks up to women & grabs them.
He’s on camera looking @ girls in beauty pageants, turning to the
camera & saying ‘can’t wait for her to be 18’

One is out there Walke, the other has total evidence. But which do they
believe?

I still await further evidence the U.S. justice system isn't at best a 50-50 coin flip, and entirely based on class and gender.

The real test will be timing.
Trump, as a wanna-be showman, has always relied upon a shameless give-the-(awful)-people-what-they-want strategy. If he can't keep things fresh by the time it matters ahead of the midterm elections and later the presidential primaries, then he'll be a victim of his schtick unable to maintain his appeal and he'll be seen as a has-been joke by all but his most ardent of followers, who are still disturbingly more numerous than they should be.

I strongly think when this is looked back on through history, it will be
covered with something like ‘Remember that time America lost their
minds?’

A bit like how Brexit will be looked at as well. I have still to see any
advantage to Brexit with our fishing industry in tatters, food left to rot in
the fields, an unbelievably complex shipping manifesto process to
Northern Ireland, HGV driver shortage.
But hey, we now appear to be able to sell things in pounds & ounces
again (we always could) & we can put the crown on a pint glass. So it
was all worth it.

James, you forgot the all important blue passports as well.

Everyday just shows how stupid Brexit is, as are the people that were duped in to voting for it or believed in the $hit racist and xenophobia that it was delivering as some great hope for them.

Anyone that voted for it and ends up suffering severe consequences because of their lack of intelligence or racism deserves everything they get.

Just a shame the rest of us have to get through it as well.

Ah yes, how could I forget the blue passports? Let’s not forget that we
could have always kept these.

Not sure why I'm bothering to reply to this, but:

You need 67 senatorial votes to remove a president or vice president by impeachment.  Even in the extremely unlikely event that every single Republican senator who's up for re-election in 2022 wins and every single Democratic senator loses (something that would require Democratic senators in deep blue states like Washington, Oregon, California, and New York to lose) the Republicans would still only have 64 seats.  And that's not even considering that some of those seats would be filled by sensible Republicans who hate Trump, like Mitt Romney and Ben Sasse.  In other words, no, this silly plan is not going to happen.

Hear hear, Greg. I saw a poll today of people who voted for Brexit are now more likely to say it brings more bad than good. But the fact that there are still any who think otherwise says it all. Wonder how long it will take for the rest of them to realise what they've done.

When I hear anything about Brexit I am reminded of Jeremy Clarkson’s tribute to the E-Type Jaguar on TOP GEAR. It reminded Britains, he said, of a time when they really were as great as they still think they are.

Living inside that bubble of British Greatness, of course some people thought Brexit was a grand idea. But the Sun set on that empire a long time ago.
