Here we are, in the second week of the new year, and things out there seem even loonier than 2020 (which I never thought would be possible).  I went to my LCS last week and cleared out my file that was filled with comics from December.  So, here's what's being put aside for me this week:

  • Amazing Spider-Man #57 - I'm still way behind on the Spider-Man title. I've got over 15 issues to read.
  • Future State Kara Zor-el Superwoman #1 - Purely speculation as I'm only doing a selective look at the Future State titles.

What are you gettingAnd from DC?

SAVAGE DRAGON #256
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #57
CHRIS CLAREMONT ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL #1
SERIAL #1 - new Terry Moore

Also snagged a bunch of the Abnett/Lanning "cosmic Marvel" titles (I dropped out after Annihilation: Conquest and have been feeling some "skipper's remorse" of late). Also, working on completing my run of the original Justice League series. This week I got #37 and #55 (poor Robin).

THE RED MOTHER #12 - Overall a solid horror mini-series but I do think it could have been done in fewer issues easily.

SPACE BASTARDS #1 - I don't know, a story about these kind of ultraviolent, vulgar, louts feels played out these days.

HOME SICK PILOTS #2 - Intriguing but maybe not enough to keep with.

Chris Claremont Anniversary Special #1
The Union #2
Seven Secrets #6- Boom has been making fun books.
E Ratic #2- This is interesting. It feels like a take on Spider-Man but at the same time, different.

The most recent issue came out last week, not this week, but I wanted to mention that the current IRON MAN series is very, very good. It's a sharp turn for the better away from Dan Slott's run.

I like Iron Man right now as well, Adam. Tony sleeping with Hellcat felt kind of fan fiction-y to me though.

It seems more natural to me than Tony sleeping with Janet Van Dyne, that's for sure.

When was the last time Hellcat appeared before this new IRON MAN series?

It's being handled well enough that I can "buy" it. If we were still in the "Tony Snark" era I wouldn't believe it, but Tony's gotten way more humble recently.

Hellcat had her own comedic series a couple of years ago.

The Tony/Jan thing really didn't work for me but Slott's writing, in my opinion, has been fan fiction for a while now. This seems to be less of a Robert Downey Jr. version of Iron Man than we've seen in a long while, I'm wondering if the addition to Hellcat is more of a continuation of Tony's relationships with redheads.

On a side note, a lot of Marvel writers these days seem to just pluck guest stars out of nowhere and turn them into supporting characters. And there seems to be this thing by few of writers to add a character as a random boyfriend/girlfriend: Spider-Man had Mockingbird, Captain Marvel had Rhodey, Iron Man had Wasp. Iron Man and Hellcat. And they just feel thrown together with no build up. It kind of does a disservice to character added to a book because they have to be marginalized or otherwise, it's Marvel Team-Up.
