Out of all the threads on the forum - you can't just keep quiet here out of courtesy and respect? That's all it is - just a little courtesy in just one thread.

Things such as comic art commissions should be shown some respect, but the light is green to call real life people assholes. Got it.

I suggest "no criticism of John Byrne’s work" to be added to the list of rules.

**********

I have not weighed in on this because to engage in this sort of discussion on a thread devoted to a commission piece is absurd.  As they say, get a freakin room.  This is not the thread for this discussion.  No one has suggested that criticism of Mr. Byrne's work is against the rules.  John has never said this.  In fact, John is often critical of his own work, especially in comparison to works of those he considers giants, like Kubert, for instance.  So do not start spreading stories about how people cannot be critcal here.  And if you persist in advancing this argument, get a room of your own.

What a shame the truth cannot be.

Are you being deliberately dense?  Open your eyes and read, because that's not what Wayne said at all.  Maybe a new rule should be "reading comprehension skills required."  Sure would weed out a lot of people like you.

I sure did like this place better when the robot and I were the only Rogers around...

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.  fairly simple rule.  And it is only one particular thread.

Try this example:

Fred and Betty bring their new bouncing baby home.  They allow you in on this special moment, the first look as it where.

Now, Junior may or may not have giant, lop-sided ears.  Even if he has, you don't say "Gee, he's fine, but man, those ears are a bit off" do you?  BIIIIIG social faux pas.

Now, if JB was to post a thread with a piece of his work, and the thread said something like "Phonebone in Action:- Tell me what you think" then there's room for constructive, polite criticism, because it's been asked for.

That sound about right?

Neither JB nor any moderator has said criticism -- positive, negative, or neutral -- is disallowed.

But comments like the ones posted here -- e.g., "I don't like it" or "Storm is clumsily drawn" -- do not even remotely approach a critique... and they add nothing to the thread.

Nice commission JB! Another piece very well done.

I also liked seeing the other piece in its outlined form.

Idea: I would love to see a thread called "The Anatomy of a Commission"

Seeing photos of a commission done in stages would be very interesting and very helpfull to some of us amateur artists!

Thanos--riiiight! I forgot about that and appreciate you taking the
time to remind me.

John P.--I second that: an antomy of a commission would be great!
Just seeing the 'first draft' of the unfinished IF commission is
something special.

Iron Fist was the first comic book I ever collected. So, there's no way
JB can do wrong with him in my books. Wrecking Crew--woot!

"Anatomy of a Commission" -- I could do a step-by-step with one of the smaller pieces, but, except for the difference in technique/tools, it would basically look like this:
