I'm very happy to be able to tell you guys this one is mine! Let me give you guys the background story on it:
My first comic was the Marvel Tales issue that reprinted Marvel Team-Up #68. It came out in 1987. That makes 2007 my 20th year as a comics fan. I figured this would be the ultimate anniversary present to myself.
My original copy of the above mentioned Marvel Tales issue was signed by John Byrne at MidOhioCon 2001, the first time I got to meet JB in person. When he signed it I told him how it was my first comic and he said something to the effect of "So it's all my fault!"
Thanks so much John, I love it! I especially like how you have Man-Thing extending his arm similarly to the original.
Also of note, the JBF's own Joe Rubinstein will be creating a companion piece to this one for me in the near future. Stay tuned...

On a reprint, I wonder why you didn't get the stamp?

BTW -- back in the FOOM days, Roger Stern used to
say he wanted to do a story about Mike Ploog, so he
could title it "I Interviewed PLOOG! The Artist That
Walks Like a Man!"

I guess I snuck it past you. I did manage to get the stamp on my reprint of Man of Steel #1 at MidOhioCon 2004.

Congrats, Joe. That comic book is my favorite of all time as well, except for me it was the original Marvel Team-- Up. I got it from my friend without a cover (still have it) so I also bought that Marvel Tales reprint you have when I saw in a bargain bin.
Something else cool: the Marvel Team-Up was my favorite at time when I didn't know or care who John Byrne was. I just knew what I liked.
A few years later, JB's FF and Alpha Flight had rocketed to the top of my list, and I noticed that the Marvel Team-Up that I loved as kid was drawn by JB.

Some more info on this for those who care about such things...from the time I sent my official request to Jim Warden to the completion of the commission was a total of 16 days. I didn't give any specific instructions/requests on this commission. I just asked for a re-imagining of the cover to MTU #68 with Man-Thing and Spider-Man and some swamp background.

JB, your muck monster really has the genuine look and feel of real muck monster!
Chad, that Man-Thing vs. Swamp Thing image is also astonishingly
good! I've always wanted to see a Swamp Thing v. Man-Thing
crossover, though Man-Thing's lack of a brain has rather limited him as
a character IMHO.
