I bought a Marvel Hercules miniseries from the 80's-- the art was nice
enough, and it started with a cool premise of Hercules on a post apocolyptic
Earth...but it then went down hill quickly. Zeus, for no reason at all,
goes insane and kills the Greek pantheon ( ! ), meanwhile Hercules is played
for laughs with an annoying Skrull "comic" sidekick who had all the charm of
Rob Schneider. Really sad, as the art was perfect.

I like Chad's idea of a Conan like series with Hercules wandering the Marvel
U, getting into cosmic brawls with monsters and cosmic beings. Loved the
Watcher moment, Chad!

I have always loved Marvel's version of Hercules.  He's been misused too often, and I think the points others have already brought up are on the money.

But he could be a big star.  Play him like the big, fun loving guy that he is, but also as a man from another time.  Plenty of room for lighthearted comedy there, but also for more serious stories at times.  But leave lots of emphasis on the fun.

Also important...play him as a GOOD guy.  Make him loud, make him overbearing at times, but don't make him a jerk.  He's good hearted, he's noble...he's a HERO,  We used to have lots of those in comics.

On another note, for years I've dreamed about a new Champions series that would feature Hercules as a mainstay, Hawkeye as the leader, and a number of other poorly used or under-used cool characters.  (How about Firebird?  She's cool...and would make a good straightwoman for H&H.)

My Champions 2007 Dream Team would consist of...

Hawkeye (Team Leader)

Hercules

Aurora

Nova (Richard Ryder)

Dr. Druid (mystic)

Marvel's Hercules isn't a bad character but I always felt that with Thor around, Herc was redundant. Different personality, I know, and a different pantheon, but I really think there's room for only one god-as-superhero in the Marvel U.

As much as I like my 70's issues, I wouldn't want to see any Champions revivals. How many "non-teams" do we need nowadays?

Why not just revive the Defenders instead and be done with it?

I wouldn't want to see any revivals at the current Marvel. I can only imagine how it would turn out. I thought the Secret Defenders and the new Invaders series were pretty forgettable.

I had forgotten them!  Now you made me remember!  Blast you!

The Defenders and Avengers had big names to anchor the team.  The Champions had  Angel and Black Widow.  Even now, Angel is hardly the number one X-Man.  Champions is...okay...but it just doesn't scream "wow!  Look at that!"

Pretty awesome.  Tough to pull off so many characters in one shot, but it works.

I loved the Champions when I was a kid, but when I re-read the issues later, I realized that they didn't really have an identity. Still, I thought any team with Ghost Rider and a couple of X-Men was pretty cool.

'Seems like it's tough to succeed with a team of established heroes beyond a couple.

I think the Roger Stern/John Buscema Hercules in Avengers # 255-288 or so is the definitive version.  Same thing with the Black Knight.

That run is my favorite series in comics.
