JB: Have I ever mentioned how much of a kick I get out of a simple phrase like that? And I don't mean the praise -- for which, much thanks! -- but the fact that there is such a thing as "my" Batman. That there are people who can make an association in their minds between my favorite character* and me!

--------------------------------------------

Oh, sure! And the best bit is that, like with an 'Adams Batman', or an 'Aparo Batman', it's safe to say that with a 'Byrne Batman', the viewer gets something clearly JB in style, yet also 'THE' Batman, the same iconic character you'll see in a picture by Neal and the other 'mighty handful' of great Batman artists.

Of course, anyone who's read or owns 'Man of Steel #3' already knows that...:

See - I think 'Byrne' and 'Batman', and that's the image that pops into my head. Or even better, just 'Batman' can do it, too!

Fantastic commission - now my poor, empty wallet's developed a mysterious dull ache...

I love the small touches. The windows that are not lit up still have the bars
drawn over them. Very cool.

I also dig the way JB puts "something" in a number of the windows.

Love it. I'm one that usually prefers when the cape and cowl is inked black,
but the "blue" version is really presented well here, and is a great contrast
with the background. My favorite part next to the beautifully-textured
gargoyle is the shadow that forms behind the scalloped cape in the lower-
right.

I consider the "Byrne Batman" as being a mixture of Adams and Aparo with
the added element of style with angles and curves that JB excels at -
honestly, I don't recall any other artist giving Batman the scalloped cape like
that - so that's probably one of the most distinctive features he gives him.

I'm not really even a DC or Batman fan, but the fact that I wanted his
Batman in my commissions should be considered a heck of a compliment!

(BTW it thrills me that when you search Google Image Search for "John Byrne
Batman", one of my commissions is still the first entry shown!)

Somewhere, Jim Aparo is smiling.

Bravo, JB!

I really like the gargoyle, very slick.  I have always wondered if there is a reference you use for the gargoyle's or make them up yourself ?

Really nice piece!!  Can't go wrong with a Byrne batman. That's for sure!  And what an impressive gargoyle!  we've seen JB do some stellar gargoyles (not just in batman conmissions either--also in daredevil, nightwing, batgirl, etc). Congrats to the owner!  You have yourself an amazing piece of art!
