Working on this piece got me thinking about the old rules of character creation -- the idea that the name should be enough to let you pick the character out of a group based on the visual. In this case, there's no question that that's Thor the Hulk is pounding on.Consider this: 
Looking at those characters and hearing their names for the first time. there would be no question which one was Thor, which Giant Man, which the Wasp, which Captain America. Even Iron Man, who no longer looks remotely like someone made of iron, at least looks like metal, and can be arrived at by a process of elimination. This was true of pretty much all the groups in the early days of Marvel. The FF, the Avengers, the X-Men. But it's been further and further from true for a long time now.
