What a city backdrop!

••

As I was drawing the buildings I was a bit concerned my forced perspective wasn't going to work. I find forced perspectives to be much like my nighttime cityscapes, where I am not really sure they're going to work until they are finished.

Happily, I think this one works!

That's a really great commission! I think the family feel to a team is so important.  Some teams feel like just a collection of co-workers.

Beautifully captures one of my favorite iterations of the team.

Seeing Franklin in this commission makes me wonder if JB had ever discussed interest in something like FF: The Next Generation.

Like giving us a glimpse of Franklin as a teenager, perhaps endowed with his father's mind as well as the Cosmic Powers.

There's a problem built into concepts like this. I have talked about what I call the "Superboy Syndrome." That's where writers try to build suspense -- "Will Superboy Survive the Kryptonite Death Trap?" -- which is impossible as long as we can check any issue of Superman's adventures to make sure young Clark survived.

Do a story set in the Future, and it is necessary to avoid all references to the rest of the Marvel Universe (no appearances by a white haired Tony Stark, for instance), or turn the whole universe into a series of Superboy stories.

Seeing them all together like this you realize what a force to be reckoned with;
You have the 2 tanks in She-Hulk and The Thing
An aerial assault from Johnny
The brain plus out of Reed
And Sue , I think the most powerful, tipping point , x-factor whatever you want to say.
Wow what a team.

One of the most gratifying experiences of my time on FANTASTIC FOUR was seeing the shift in fan perception, from Sue as the useless member of the team, to her as perhaps the most powerful!

And what's significant, I think, is that I accomplished this without any radical changes to the character. Didn't have to give her an extra dose of cosmic rays (a la Phoenix), or put her thru some kind of mental trauma (a la Guy Gardner). Just applied her established powers logically.
