Niiice. And it features the versions of Beast and Iceman I prefer.
One commission I'd love to see but never get the chance to get is an original X-Men/Doom Patrol piece. Have the original groups in a big skirmish with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and The Brotherhood of Evil.
In an old JBF thread about intriguing matches, I suggested that the original X-men and Doom Patrol switching off in fights against their respective Brotherhood foes would make for a great comic.

Beautiful work! Never been a fan of "Iceboots", but it doesn't look bad there. Probably had more to do with the way the rest of him looked in the old stories.

This does bring a question to my mind. Iceman here looks somewhat like the snowball that he resembled when Jack Kirby first drew him. J.B. Do you know if it was ever addressed in comics about the change in his appearance from the snowman look to the ice over look ? Was it just chucked up to making him look more like ice or was it more about him progressing in his powers ? *** As Kirby originally drew him, Bobby's icy alter ego looked like a walking snowman, (In one memorable scene he even affected shoe-button "eyes" and a carrot "nose", brandishing a broom!). Over the first year or so of the book, Kirby refine the "snowman" form until it looked about like it does in this piece. Then, he had Bobby deliberately "tighten" his icing, and he ended up as we now know him -- with one important difference! He was semi-transparent, and with concentration could become almost invisible. This was around the same time when the Human Torch was "living flame", so it's not surprising Kirby would go in that direction -- and also not surprising that in both cases he would pull back to a more "realistic" interpretation. (Iceman was always the ringer in this little group. The others had poweres that were at least quasi-believable, but having Bobby transform his whole body into ice went a step too far. Not to mention being extremely hazardous to his health!) A scene I have long wanted to do, btw, is to have Iceman trying to sneak up on somebody -- finding it impossible as his icy sheath crackles as it constantly breaks and reforms with his every movement.

The talk about Ice Man got me thinking about how much I was annoyed whenever Bobby was referred to as the "weakest" X-Man back in the early days. I think this was said because he was the youngest, but I personally do not equate youth with being weaker, necessarily. I always thought of Angel as the weakest of that bunch.

How about when Marvel Girl could only levitate her own weight -- despite Kirby having her lifting Hank in the first issue, and a passle of teenage girls somewhat later? Pretty weak. No wonder everybody was so keen to "up" her powers. (And, yes. Phoenix went too far.)

Yeah, I joke with friends that the old Marvel Girl would faint if she tried to levitate anything heavier than a book.
I realize that these shows of weakness was probably Stan's way of saying to readers that these Marvel heroes are not the demi-gods that DC had, but sometimes I thought the characters had to strain a bit too much.

John Byrne has definitely got it going on for someone that the current regime at M***** doesn't even try to sign up for a title.
His artistic help would sure be appreciated on a monthly there.
This commission was eXcellent, boss!
