Cap was revived in a 1964 cover-dated comic, so it was 19 years after the war ended, making him in his early 40's by calendar and early 20's by time spent out n the world.

So Hawkeye was probably about 5 years younger than him physically, and Pietro and Wanda were probably a few years younger than that.  Maybe 18 or 19?  So looking at them as a group you would assume Cap was a few years older than them and the Wasp, but still younger than Pym or Stark, and certainly younger than Thor.  The "man out of time" angle made sense, but "old man" angle not as much.

"SUPERMAN--...But any time I find an old Curt Swan issue in a back issue box, I am filled with joy! I wish they'd collect them in something other than b&w or overpriced hardcover."

...

Man, I know it's been tough trying to get Swan in a reasonable collected form.
A couple of years ago I got lucky and found SUPERMAN IN THE SEVENTIES tpb at Ollie's for a $1!
