Hi JB,

As an optometrist who regularly manages cataract patients with local
surgeons, I wanted to share some advice and observations I’ve learned over
the years.

- Assuming you just had one eye done today and will have the other in a few
weeks (as is common with all of my surgeons), the next few weeks will be the
toughest period of the process. Having one eye that sees clearly and the other
eye that doesn’t can create some confusion between the two eyes even to the
extent that you may need to have the lens of the operated eye removed from
your glasses just to make things more comfortable. Just roll with it as best you
can, and this, too, shall pass.

- You will perceive colors (your color vision deficiency aside) as being much
brighter and more vivid than you have in a long time. That’s actually the
number one comment I hear from patients, even more so than just the overall
clarity. It’s like cleaning a window that you haven’t washed in several decades
and suddenly the view outside is brighter.

- Don’t ignore the eye drop regimen you’re prescribed for aftercare. These
drops will prevent infection and control inflammation that can occur, and
greatly improve the healing process.

Otherwise, everything should go pretty smoothly. Cataract surgery is quite
routine and uneventful nowadays, and the results are often better than
expected. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, and I’m definitely willing to
answer any questions you may have.

Peeking around my patch this morning, I am truly amazed by how much brighter and sharper everything looks And how YELLOW things are thru my right eye!

You do look like you are ready to punish Thor for disobeying you again.

Glad to see that you are ok!
