Hopefully file this under, "there are no dumb questions", but this one has been nagging my brain since I first read the AF panel it appeared in almost 40 years ago.  In Mac's origin, to get him involved in Dept. H, the government liaison says Mac has been retroactively employed by them for the last 6 years.  Does that imply the time Mac has been paying back his student loans since graduating with his phd?
