Maybe Charles could pay for it himself?

New York Times

King Charles Inherits Untold Riches, and Passes Off His Own Empire

As prince, Charles used tax breaks, offshore accounts and canny real estate investments to turn a sleepy estate into a billion-dollar business.

"little miss know nothing" = Meghan Markle?

I was thinking of that '69-'70 proto rap record Whitey On The Moon (Gil Scott-Heron) that complained about social issues contrasted to the moon landing coverage and costs. NASA could've had a black astronaut too... one of those 'wouldn't play in the south' bits of b.s.

It seems like the people themselves are costing a lot of the expense over the death of the Queen by their being in the streets and wanting access to 'events'. If Bore-us-all Johnson gets to be in the front row others want to at least have a shot at the second row I guess. I remember that the old coronation coach was said to cost a fortune in gold leaf and was a terribly rough thing to ride in or steer, but I suppose they can at least amortize stuff like that over time. I'd be fine with just a special scene in Corrie myself as far as tv is concerned; Will Roach, Barbara Knox and Sue Nicholls raising a glass at t'Rovers. :^/

Ah, they're all imposters from Henry Tudor onwards to me! :^D

No, I think it's more likely James meant Liz Truss, our new Prime Minister - the woman who scarily couldn't even find the door out of her own press conference several weeks ago, and has already been termed 'the Iron Weathercock' by some, given her seeming ability to change opinion and direction as the prevailing wind similarly varies.

Ah, okay. Four "conservative" "leaders" in such a short span, and who knows how many still to come, it all went awry with Cameron. Almost anywhere else that party would be out of contention for opposition even. I have heard a lot of anti-Markle stuff from people in England for the last while so that's why I thought of her. I'm pretty much indifferent to all the royal soap dramas, and never buy those kinds of papers (if there isn't a really wanted 'free' CD or DVD with it anyway). I can always lob the Harry looking exactly like the riding instructor grenade and then flee. :^)

Phil is correct.

Little miss knows nothing is Liz Truss - she has a knack of answering
questions with ‘I don’t know’. & also failing to prepare for meetings - for
example, she fell into the Russian trap of saying the UK would never accept
a certain area would be Russian, thinking it was in Ukraine, when actually, it
was in Russia.

She’s a dangerous liability.

With regards to Meghan Markle, I have been appalled how the UK press
have had double standards about her, & & short search would be able to
see why Her & Harry ended up doing what they have done.

Meghan Markle clearly expected to become a real life Disney Princess, and took a hard wallop from the reality of being a Royal in the 21st Century.

Not quite a Hollywood ending.

Based on the reality of being a Royal in the 19st Century and 21st Century:

19st Century: You can't be a Royal if your skin is too dark.
21st Century: You can be a Royal if your skin is dark, but we will make strange comments about it to your couple when you're not there.

I predict this reality of being a Royal in the 23rd and 25th centuries:

23rd Century: Royal people are regular people that embrace diveristy and don't want to live a luxury life.
25st Century: Monarchies are finally over in the Western world.

I see a progression here. Fingers crossed!

I just don't think she realised how racist the UK can be.
She was vilified for doing things that Kate was
celebrated for.
Example - Kate, while pregnant, touches bump - a doting
mother to be.
Meghan? Why can't Meghan leave her baby bump alone???

The Daily (hate) Mail and The Express have said such
hateful things, day after day after day - and no one did
a thing to try to address it. Even now, they are going
for her without redress. Yet hold a blank piece of paper
in one of the crowds and you will be approached by the
Police.

And no, I am NOT making that up. Currently, we are
dealing with people in the crowds who are exercising
their right to protest exactly as Russia did with
protesters against the invasion of Ukraine.
I may not agree with most of what they are protesting
about (I like most of the Royal family for example,
although I think Andrew should be locked up), but there
is no way they should be arrested and charged with a
crime for protesting.
The USA removed Trump from President, we just carried on
down that path towards fascism, with Truss, Rees-Mogg and
Braveman going hell for leather down that road.

Thread drift, sorry - Rees-Mogg two days ago stated that
he does not think there should be a right to paid
holidays (this after Truss stated that UK workers are
lazy and could learn from the work ethic of the Chinese).
Mogg also espoused how Victorian work practices should be
lauded - so we really do know where they are going to try
to take this country over the next two years.

Vladimir Putin has announced that he had no plans to attend the funeral, after it was revealed he wasn't invited due to the invasion of Ukraine.

I have sympathy for Megan Markle's issue in principle, I just have a hard time with the notion that all that she went through came to light AFTER the wedding.   < id="protanopia"> < id="deuteranopia"> < id="tritanopia">

Reminiscent of Meryl Streep’s classic line in DEATH BECOMES HER.

Harry and Meghan were staying near where I am in Canada and it was known locally but nobody posted or spoke about it, at least until they'd left. NYC is my ideal for how you treat 'celebrities'... like they are 'just' human beings. Thus you can see a famous music star in a record shop and they don't get hassled for autographs, although someone might say "loved your ________ record", or perhaps notice what they are buying.

I think the tabloids in England are as bad or worse than in the U.S. and never can understand how anyone buys them (unless for a 'free' CD or DVD they really want that comes with one). The Sun and now deceased News Of The World always turned up as the worst of the worst in my experience from afar (same company) and I have heard bad things about The Daily Mail. It used to be postal regulations prevented some things by way of right to be distributed by mail or at a printed matter rate, It seems these have been weakened somewhere starting around forty years ago. No regulating extreme bad taste I suppose though other than fear of lawsuits. I'd say the tabloid type press had a massive hand in causing Diana's death... they sure wouldn't have been speeding but for the obscene prices sometimes paid for ever awful quality photos of her!

I'm not watching the spectacle(s), even avoiding it you will still see or read things, but a lot of it is frankly exceptionally boring. If I was nearby I might've paid respect en route though as so many have and do with respected leaders generally.
