I have to say, now I really understand the appeal of an
alter-ego for a shy teenager like Peter Parker. Walking
the streets of Lucca I felt like a completely other
person. That sense of typically being an anonymous body
in the street and suddenly being the centre of attention
(even during an event where a *lot* of people were in
pretty great costumes) was pretty heady. And now, on my
return home, I already have a request to do a birthday
party! Side note - excuse the inaccurate footwear - the
costume didn't have real boots, and I didn't want to tear
it up or soak my feet. It rained A LOT in Tuscany that
week.

Also, never let it be said Spider-Man isn't above a
little (unpaid!) advertising for his friends.

If you happen to remember it, JB, these pictures were taken
right at the base of Guinigi Tower, the big one with the
trees at the top.

Is it me or is Spidey smiling? The web design seems placed just right to look like one, but maybe you actually were smiling under the mask? :^)

Oh yeah, I had a *huge* grin on my face. I just couldn't
keep it off. It's been noted by others as well!

From time to time, when drawing Spider-Man, I have used the upward curve of the web pattern on the lower half of his mask to suggest a smile. Amusing to see what it looks like in “real life”.
