More like a return to Feudalism, bringing m'lord back into fashion.
Reminds me someone said "All these Tech billionaires claiming to be Star Trek fans but they really want to live in the Dune universe".

Third World isn't a great term. Historically you're either capitalist, communist or part of the third world. Obviously the US is first world in that sense. Even in the more modern usage of developed vs developing, it's ridiculous to put the US in a developing country bracket.

I'd describe it as in a post-developed decline. Or in a fundamental shift to a less democratic version of itself. An imperial ascent phase?

Sticking with this particular ass backwards logic, it all started with wanting and probably dismantling the Department of Education and passing any burden associated with it to the states in which it is already running, where I can only see the poor or anyone who can't afford their kids to go to a charter schools to become the new peasants. Now they want to extend the work hours for minors to work overnights?  So no time to study especially if you're in a low income family probably helping to pay the ever increasing bills with no pay raise in sight, in short this is their plan to keep the future workers poor and uneducated, just the way the GOP likes them.

"Oh no! We need to stop being a third world country"! What does that even mean?

The original definition of a third world country referred to the nations that lacked an alliance with either the U.S. or the former Soviet Union during the Cold War.

In recent years, the term has come to define countries that have high poverty rates, economic instability and lack basic human necessities like access to water, shelter or food for its citizens. These countries are often underdeveloped, and in addition to widespread poverty, they also have high mortality rates.

These are all issues in America, but not at anywhere near the rate of underdeveloped countries. And it's basically a condition that a single strong administration could correct.

This "Third World" image of the U.S. is what MAGA has - it's one of Trump's favorite attacks. And this false sense of things has been used to drive so much anger and emotion that America has embarked on murdering its own democracy.

I have a lot of younger teens that WANT to work for me. It’s tempting, as
they’re not ‘broken’ yet. However, a portion of the people they’d be
working with ARE.
