For me, this issue is the answer to that proverbial
question 'Why do the heroes always win'?

The answer is of course - because the plot needs the heroes
to win - it's their book.
Here, it is not the book of the alternative heroes - so
they can lose, even Thor. The trick is making that loss
believable - and Wanda is the perfect lynch pin for that to
happen.

But in our world? With our heroes? The bad guys won't win -
but the fun is seeing why not.

This might be a 'careful what you wish for' situation - I don't actually want to see any of our heroes die!

This touches on the crux of many a "What If ...?" tale: Who exactly, at their core, are "our heroes"?

WHAT IF is a chance to see our heroes in very different circumstances, where they might be heroes, villains, or bystanders. Given that, the better term might be "series protagonists."

You missed an important word in that caption-
"Metal bulkheads that should have stood unmoving for centuries buckle."

Woah - just read the first two pages for first time back to back. What a powerful intro and even more so without a title card to gently ease us in.

You won’t actually be seeing the title until the middle of next week.

And that’s NOT the deepest I’ve ever sunk a title into an issue!

It's a bit like "Ace" Rimmer in Red Dwarf I think... he became a hero when he was left back a grade in school, it helped 'make' him what he became ("smoke me a kipper"), whereas the alternately sniveling and pompous holographic Rimmer we knew clung to an old swimming certificate as a lone moment of glory although (barely) passed up a grade in school.

Cyclops is the lead character for me, so that last panel is a joy to see.

JB, it almost appears, in the last panel, that the white of Cyclops' beam is a brighter white than the remainder of that page. Either I'm seeing things or you've done some magic.

IIRC, you’ve waited until the last page before.
