I didn't realize there was a fan fic section on this site! Late last year, I re-
read ALPHA FLIGHT #1-28, and then wrote a new issue #29 as if no other
ALPHA FLIGHT comics had ever been published. I'm excited/nervous to
post it below! Consider it ALPHA FLIGHT: ELSEWHEN. : )

(If there are any artists reading this, feel free to draw any page(s) you'd
like!)

Here's an easy-to-read version on my public Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/brendan.deneen/posts/15361595365185 70?
notif_id=1559864398743356

(There seems to be a blank space in there that I can't fix! If you get rid of
that space, the link works. Sigh.)

And below is a cut-and-pasted version with horrible formatting! I'd also be
happy to email anyone a Word or PDF version. Brendan.Deneen@gmail.com
: )

ALPHA FLIGHT #29
by Brendan Deneen
Alpha Flight created by John Byrne

PAGE ONE (5 Panels)
Panel 1. The top third of the page. A shot of a long structure along the icy
banks of Ungava Bay. In the distance, more structures can be seen. It's the
nearest town, if it can be called that. It's dark out, in the middle of the
night, the only natural light coming from the moon behind a smattering of
clouds, from which snow falls. But there's also an UNNATURAL red light
coming from the structure's window.

NARRATION: NEAR KANGIQSUALUJJUAQ, QUEBEC

DIALOGUE BOX: "I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER I CAN KEEP THIS
UP..."

Panel 2. Now we're inside the structure. It's an old fishing building but it
clearly hasn't been used in years. There's a young woman with long hair in
the middle of this panel and a ball of red light is emanating from her
outstretched hands. It's so bright, in fact, that we can't make out her
features.

VOICE (OFF PANEL): YOUR POWERS CONTINUE TO GROW BUT YOUR
CONTROL OVER THEM IS STILL DISAPPOINTING. I EXPECTED MORE
FROM YOU.

WOMAN: I'VE BEEN TRAINING NON-STOP FOR WEEKS! WHAT MORE AM I
SUPPOSED TO DO?

Panel 3. A shot of the man to whom she is speaking. He's is bathed in red
and black shadows, so we can't make out his identity but it's clear that the
shape of his head is...odd.

MAN: YOU NEED TO CONCENTRATE! JUST AS I'VE BEEN TELLING YOU,
AGAIN AND AGAIN. OR PERHAPS YOU AREN'T UP FOR THIS TASK.
PERHAPS YOU DO NOT TRULY WISH TO HAVE YOUR REVENGE.

Panel 4. The woman screams, the energy blasting out in every direction.
The brightness of it continues to blot out her face. But we do see the hints
of a red gown-like costume on her.

WOMAN: NO!

Panel 5. A long panel, the bottom third of the page. We get a good look at
the two people now as supernatural-looking red fires burn all over the
inside of this structure. There's also a huge, gaping hole in the roof above
them. It's none other than ELIZABETH TWOYOUNGMEN aka TALISMAN!
Her eyes and fists glow red! And sitting across from her is ALEXANDER
THORNE aka SMART ALEC! The last time we saw him, he was the size of a
doll. Something has clearly changed. He wears his signature helmet and
has an evil smile on his face.

SMART ALEC: AN IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY OF BRUTE MAGICAL FORCE,
ELIZABETH. I MUST CONFESS... WHAT YOU LACK IN NUANCE, YOU MAKE
UP FOR IN SHEER POWER. PERHAPS YOU ARE READY FOR THE NEXT
STEPS IN OUR PLAN.

TALISMAN: I AM MORE THAN READY, SMART ALEC. MY FATHER MUST
SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS ENDLESS LIES! AND IF ALPHA
FLIGHT GETS IN MY WAY...TALISMAN: THEN THEY WILL SUFFER, TOO.

PAGES 2-3 (DOUBLE PAGE SPLASH)

We are witness to a glorious scene! On a massive lawn surrounded by trees,
a most epic battle is taking place underneath a radiant sun! Alpha Flight is
battling a number of robots (THE MICRO-MEN-- see Alpha Flight #26 for
reference, though their armor can/should be modernized since last we saw
them). Just which members of Alpha Flight are present during this battle?
The current roster includes:

GUARDIAN! (How is that possible?!)
NORTHSTAR!
AURORA! (Her hair is still short but longer than when we last saw her in
Alpha Flight #28 and is all of equal length -- and most interestingly, she is
wearing her original costume, the one that matches her brother's!)
SHAMAN!
SNOWBIRD!
PUCK!
BOX!

This scene is action-packed as each member is using his/her powers to
battle the numerous Micro-Men. And eagle-eyed readers will see a woman
on the sidelines, watching intently. It's none other than HEATHER HUDSON
(wearing her signature red/white outfit and green glasses, with the gun in a
holder on her waist -- see Alpha Flight #28 for reference)! In the distance is
a mansion (last seen in Alpha Flight #21). That mansion, and this island, are
the new headquarters for Canada's premiere super team!

NARRATION: TAMARIND ISLAND, OFF THE SOUTHERN TIP OF
VANCOUVERISSUE

TITLE BLAST: AND A TEAM SHALL RISE....

PAGE FOUR (5 Panels)

Panel 1. A large panel of Guardian blasting a Micro-Man. There's a big smile
on his face. Below him, Puck stands on top of a dismantled Micro-Man that
he clearly just took apart (in fact, he's holding a metallic arm!). He's staring
up at Guardian, looking impressed.

PUCK: AN IMPRESSSIVE DISPLAY, GUARDIAN!

GUARDIAN: THANKS, PUCK! THIS NEW SUIT IS EXCEEDING MY
EXPECTATIONS!

Panel 2. In the foreground, we see Snowbird transforming into a snow-
white lynx as she leaps at one of the Micro-Men! Behind her, Box tears one
of the Micro-Men in half as he talks to himself (and we'll find out why soon
enough)!

BOX: I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER GET USED TO WIELDING THIS KIND OF
POWER!

BOX: CONCENTRATE, ROGER! EVEN THOUGH THIS IS JUST A TRAINING
EXERCISE, WE STILL RUN THE RISK OF BEING INJURED!

SNOWBIRD: GRRRRRRRR!

Panel 3. The first of two smaller panels. Northstar blazes through the air,
holding one of the Micro-Men under its arms.

NORTHSTAR: SISTER, BE READY!

Panel 4. As he's flying, Northstar throws the Micro-Man up into the sky!

Panel 5. Aurora blasts the Micro-Man with a beam of pure white light,
causing it to explode!

AURORA: MERCI, NORTHSTAR!

PAGE FIVE (6 Panels)

Panel 1. A shot of Shaman, as two Micro-Men approach him menacingly.
He's reaching into his ever-present magical pouch!

SHAMAN: YOUR POWERS CONTINUE TO EVOLVE, AURORA! MOST
INTERESTING! BUT NOW LET ME FINISH THESE FINAL TWO!

Panel 2. Shaman throws a glowing green powder out of his bag, which
envelops both of the Micro-Men.

SHAMAN: THIS SHOULD BE MORE THAN SUFFICIENT TO HANDLE THE
THREAT.

Panel 3. However, the powder transforms the Micro-Men into hideous
versions of themselves! They look more vicious than ever!! Demonic,
metallic creatures from your worst nightmare!Panel 4. A close up of
Shaman's confused face.

SHAMAN: BUT... HOW...?

Panel 5. The Micro-Men Creatures close in on Shaman! It doesn't look good
for our Sacree Medicine Man!

Panel 6. Similar panel but both of the Creatures are blasted from someone
off panel!

SFX: ZZZAP! ZZZAP!

PAGE SIX (6 Panels)

Panel 1. A shot of Heather Hudson! She's holding her smoking laser pistol
and she looks like a total bad ass!

HEATHER: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, ALPHA! THAT'S YOUR BEST TIME
YET AGAINST THE MICRO-MEN. I THINK YOU'VE EARNED A LITTLE R&R.
BUT LET'S MEET BACK HERE IN TWO HOURS TO EVALUATE THE SESSION.
THERE'S STILL ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.

Panel 2. Heather approaches Shaman.

HEATHER: YOU OKAY, MICHAEL? I'M... ASSUMING YOU DIDN'T MEAN TO
TURN THOSE MICROS INTO DEMONIC CREATURES?

SHAMAN: I... DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN IT, HEATHER. MY POUCH
HAS BEEN SOMEWHAT... UNPREDICTABLE IN RECENT WEEKS. EVER
SINCE IT WAS TURNED INSIDE OUT* DURING OUR ENCOUNTER WITH
OMEGA FLIGHT.

EDITORIAL NOTE: *AS SEEN IN ALPHA FLIGHT #27

Panel 3. Aurora lands next to Guardian, who has a panel open on the arm of
his armor, looking at the intricate circuitry within.

AURORA: ZAT WAS IMPRESSIVE, GUARDIAN. YOU ARE ALREADY FITTING
RIGHT IN WITH ZE TEAM.

GUARDIAN: OH... THANKS, AURORA. I'M STILL GETTING USED TO THIS
ARMOR. BUT I GOTTA ADMIT IT FEELS PRETTY GOOD.

Panel 4. A close up of Aurora. She has a sly smile on her face.

AURORA: IT LOOKS GOOD, TOO.

Panel 5. A shot of Puck and Box.

PUCK: MY OH MY, IT MUST BE STRANGE FOR HEATHER TO SEE AURORA
FLIRTING WITH GUARDIAN, EH?

BOX: IT'S NOT EXACTLY EASY FOR ME EITHER.

Panel 6. A close up of Puck, looking chagrined.

PUCK: MY APOLOGIES, WALTER! I NEVER KNOW WHICH BOX I'M TALKING
TO THESE DAYS!

PAGE 7 (5 Panels)

Panel 1. A shot of Northstar as he watches Aurora flirting with Guardian. He
doesn't look happy.

VOICE OFF-PANEL: IS... EVERYTHING ALL RIGHT, NORTHSTAR?

Panel 2. Northstar turns and is surprised to see Snowbird approaching him.

NORTHSTAR: SNOWBIRD...?

SNOWBIRD: I DID NOT MEAN TO INTRUDE ON YOUR MOMENT OF
REFLECTION... AND PLEASE, CALL ME NARYA.

Panel 3. A shot of Northstar, looking somewhat annoyed by this very
intrusion.

NORTHSTAR: I WOULDN'T CALL IT A MOMENT OF REFLECTION. I WAS
JUST TRYING TO DECIDE WHERE TO GO DURING OUR BREAK. KOREA?
PARIS? OR MAYBE I'LL JUST GO SKIING IN THE ALPS.

Panel 4. A shot of Snowbird. She has a sad smile on his face.

SNOWBIRD: PARDON MY MISTAKE. I ADMIT THAT I STILL HAVE SOME
TROUBLE READING HUMANS. I THOUGHT PERHAPS THAT YOU WERE
WRESTLING WITH FAMILIAL EMOTIONS. I MYSELF HAVE BEEN
STRUGGLING WITH MY OWN SENSE OF PURPOSE OF LATE, WITH THE
DESTRUCTION OF THE GREAT BEASTS AND MY... COMPLICATED
RELATIONSHIP WITH DOUGLAS*. I ALSO FEEL THE NEED TO APOLOGIZE
FOR... CONTROLLING YOUR MIND**. I... REGRET THAT DECISION.

*LAST SEEN IN ALPHA FLIGHT #27

**AS SEEN IN ISSUE #24

Panel 5. A similar shot as panel #1 but now Northstar's face has softened.
There is an unintentional coldness to Snowbird that he actually finds quite
comforting.

NORTHSTAR: I... FORGIVE YOU, NARYA. IT'S FAIR TO SAY THAT I HAVEN'T
ALWAYS MADE THE BEST DECISIONS EITHER. IT'S SOMETHING I AM...
WORKING ON.

NORTHSTAR: WOULD YOU... LIKE TO GO GET SOME LUNCH? MAYBE WE
CAN COMMISERATE OVER OUR SHARED INABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE
INTRICACIES OF MY FELLOW HUMANS.

PAGE EIGHT (5 Panels)

Panel 1. The top third of the page. A long shot inside a large kitchen.
Shaman is handing Heather a cup of steaming tea. She is sitting at a
wooden table. Sunlight streams in from tall windows.

NARRATION: LATER....

HEATHER: THANK YOU, MICHAEL. I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT, BUT
YOU MAKE THE BEST TEA I'VE EVER HAD.

HEATHER: SO... I'M ASSUMING YOU STILL HAVEN'T HEARD FROM
ELIZABETH...?

SHAMAN: NO... I HAVE LEFT MESSAGES AND CHECKED IN WITH HER
FRIENDS, BUT NO ONE HAS SEEN HER. AND MY MAGICAL ATTEMPTS
HAVE PROVEN NO MORE SUCCESSFUL. I AM, OF COURSE, CONCERNED.
AND WRACKED WITH GUILT....

Panel 2. A shot of Heather. She holds the tea cup up but we can still see
her face. The steam rises around both sides of her face.

HEATHER: YOU NEED TO STOP TORTURING YOURSELF. YOU MADE A
SPLIT-SECOND DECISION. YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD SAVE BOTH HER
AND SNOWBIRD, AND YOU WOULD HAVE SUCCEEDED IF NOT FOR
DELPHINE*.

*ALSO IN ALPHA FLIGHT #27

Panel 3. A shot of Michael as he sits down.

MICHAEL. I KNOW THAT, HEATHER. IF I HAD SAVED ELIZABETH FIRST,
THERE'S A VERY GOOD CHANCE THAT SNOWBIRD WOULD BE DEAD...
AND SHE IS, IN MANY WAYS, LIKE A DAUGHTER TO ME AS WELL.

MICHAEL: IT IS JUST SO UNNERVING TO KNOW THAT ELIZABETH IS OUT
THERE... SEETHING WITH ANGER... THE POWER OF TALISMAN AT HER
FINGERTIPS.

Panel 4. A shot of Heather as she sits back in her chair.

HEATHER: LET'S NOT GET AHEAD OF OURSELVES. SHE'S A GOOD KID. I
BET WE'LL HEAR FROM HER SOON. SHE PROBABLY JUST NEEDS SOME
TIME TO COOL DOWN.

HEATHER: SOMETIMES IT'S HARD TO WRAP MY HEAD AROUND HOW
MUCH HAS HAPPENED SINCE SHE TELEPORTED US AWAY FROM THAT
INSANITY AT THE WEST EDMONTON MALL.

Panel 5. A duplicate of panel 1 from page 14 of Alpha Flight #28.

NARRATION: TWO MONTHS EARLIER...

PAGE NINE (4 Panels)

Panel 1. A shot of Box "fishing" for...something through an inter-
dimensional portal (see AF #28 for reference).

HEATHER NARRATION: I STILL CAN'T GET OVER THE FACT THAT ROGER
AND WALTER WERE IRRESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO GO ON SOME KIND OF...
INTER-DIMENSIONAL FISHING TRIP WITHOUT ANY PROPER MYSTICAL
SUPERVISION! HEATHER NARRATION: I DON'T THINK ANYONE COULD
HAVE PREDICTED WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.

Panel 2. The Hulk smashes Box's shoulder (see the final page of AF
#28)!!SFX: FWAM!

Panel 3. The portal explodes, sending everyone flying (they should be
silhouettes because the light is so bright). NB: The Hulk is NOT seen in this
shot. In the room are Heather, Box, Aurora, Northstar, Jeffries, Puck, and
Shaman (though they don't all need to be in this panel).

HEATHER NARRATION: WHEREVER THE HULK CAME FROM... HOWEVER
HE HAD GOTTEN HERE... IT WAS TOO MUCH FOR THE TECHNOLOGY
THAT ROGER AND WALTER HAD COBBLED TOGETHER. AND LIKE THAT....

Panel 4. All of the technology in the room is shattered. The people are
splayed out on the floor, knocked senseless. Box is a shattered mess as
well.

HEATHER NARRATION: THE HULK WAS GONE, SUCKED BACK THROUGH
THE PORTAL AND TO GOD KNOWS WHERE. BUT THE DAMAGE WAS
DONE.

PAGE TEN (6 Panels)

Panel 1.   Still in the shattered room, Heather kneels next to Box.

HEATHER: ROGER, ARE YOU OKAY?

BOX: I... I'M NOT GONNA LIE. THAT WASN'T FUN. BUT I THINK I'LL BE
ALL RIGHT. I MIGHT NEED A TUNE UP AND A FEW GALLONS OF MOTOR
OIL THOUGH.

Panel 2. A shot of Heather. She still looks concerned despite Box's seeming
good humor.

HEATHER: I THINK WE JUST GOT VERY LUCKY. IMAGINE IF THE HULK
HADN'T BEEN PULLED OUT OF HERE AS QUICKLY AS HE'D ARRIVED...

HEATHER: BUT... WAS THE TRANSFER A SUCCESS? DID WE ALREADY
LOSE WALTER AFTER JUST SAVING HIM FROM THE REALM OF THE
BEASTS?*

*SEE ALPHA FLIGHT #24

Panel 3. A shot of Box.

BOX: WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I'M RIGHT HERE.

Panel 4. A shot of Heather, kneeling next to Box.

HEATHER: ...WALTER...?

BOX: YES, I... I'M HERE. BUT SOMEONE ELSE IS HERE, TOO.

BOX: YEAH, IT'S ME, WALTER. ROGER. LOOKS LIKE WE'RE ROOMMATES.
I CAN'T SEEM TO JUMP OUT OF BOX.

Panel 6. A shot of Puck, kneeling above the prone and unconscious form of
Roger Bochs on the ground!

PUCK: UHH, GUYS? I THINK YOU NEED TO SEE THIS.

Panel 5. A long panel, the bottom third of the page. Heather and Shaman
sit at the kitchen table, drinking tea.

SHAMAN: WHATEVER ENERGY SENT WALTER BACK INTO BOX ALSO
TRAPPED ROGER IN THERE AS WELL, AT THE SAME TIME EXTRACTING HIS
HUMAN FORM. THE UNIVERSE HAS A CRUEL SENSE OF HUMOR AT
TIMES.

HEATHER: THEY BOTH SEEM TO BE ADJUSTING TO THE SITUATION
FAIRLY WELL... THOUGH IT'S UNNERVING TO SEE BOX ARGUING WITH
HIMSELF DURING TRAINING EXERCISES.

PAGE ELEVEN (5 Panels)

Panel 1. A shot of Shaman. He's got a rare smile on his face.

SHAMAN: IT'S NOT ONLY DURING TRAINING EXERCISES! I'VE HEARD
THEM ARGUING ABOUT WHAT TELEVISION PROGRAM TO WATCH!

SHAMAN: THE REST OF ALPHA SEEMS TO BE TAKING TO OUR NEW
ROSTER QUITE WELL. BUT I WONDER HOW YOU'RE DOING, WITH...

Panel 2. A shot of Heather.

HEATHER: GUARDIAN? YOU DON'T HAVE TO TIPTOE AROUND THE
SUBJECT, MICHAEL.

HEATHER: IT WAS WEIRD AT FIRST, I HAVE TO ADMIT. BUT IT'S NOT MAC
IN THERE... AND BESIDES, MAC WAS ALWAYS SO MUCH MORE THAN
JUST THAT SUIT.

Panel 3. Flashback. A shot of Delphine Courtney at the beginning of AF
#27.

HEATHER NARRATION: MAYBE IT WAS THAT WHOLE EPISODE WITH THAT
DAMN ROBOT. NOTHING COULD BE WORSE THAN THINKING MAC WAS
ALIVE... AND THEN ALMOST GETTING ALPHA FLIGHT KILLED BECAUSE OF
MY NAIVETE.

Panel 4. A shot of Heather.

HEATHER: FOR BETTER OR WORSE, I'M NOT THE SAME WOMAN I WAS
BACK THEN. I'M MORE FOCUSED THAN EVER. STRONGER. I FEEL LIKE
BEING THE LEADER OF ALPHA FLIGHT WAS SOMETHING I WAS BORN TO
DO.

Panel 5. A shot of Shaman, a wry smile on his face.

SHAMAN: THERE IS NO QUESTION IN MY MIND ABOUT THAT FACT,
HEATHER.

PAGE TWELVE (5 Panels)

Panel 1. A shot of Guardian and Aurora walking through a line of trees.

GUARDIAN: I GOTTA ADMIT... IT'S WEIRD TO SEE YOU AND YOUR
BROTHER GETTING ALONG SO WELL. I KNOW I'M STILL PRETTY NEW
AROUND HERE... BUT I HEARD YOU TWO DIDN'T ALWAYS SEE EYE TO EYE.

AURORA: JEAN-PAUL IS A DIFFICULT MAN...TO SAY ZE LEAST...

Panel 2. A shot of Aurora.

AURORA: BUT I LOVE HIM, AND I HAVE LEARNED TO FORGIVE HIS...
UNIQUE WAY OF EXPRESSING HIMSELF. BESIDES, HIS BEHAVIOR HAS
BEEN IMPROVING OF LATE.

Panel 3. A shot of Guardian.

GUARDIAN: THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS I ALWAYS LOVED ABOUT ALPHA
FLIGHT. EVEN WHEN THINGS GOT TOUGH, YOU GUYS ALWAYS HAD
EACH OTHER'S BACKS. I GUESS A LOT OF THAT WAS BECAUSE OF MAC. I
JUST HOPE I CAN LIVE UP TO HIS LEGACY...

Panel 4. A shot of Guardian and Aurora. Guardian is tapping on the now-
open panel on his arm again.

GUARDIAN: SPEAKING OF WHICH... IF YOU DON'T MIND... I'M GETTIN' A
LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE IN THIS SHELL. I DON'T KNOW HOW MAC DID
IT....

Panel 5. A shot of Aurora's face. She doesn't look happy about what's
happening.

AURORA: WAIT...!

PAGE THIRTEEN (5 Panels)

Panel 1. A bigger panel, possibly the top third of the page. The Guardian
"folds" open in the front (kind of like a scene out of an Iron Man movie) and
out walks none other than Jeffries!! Aurora looks on with unexplained
horror.

Panel 2. A shot of Jeffries' confused face.

JEFFRIES: WHAT... WHAT'S THE MATTER?

Panel 3. A shot of Aurora, backing away. Her body language has changed
completely.

AURORA: I... I FORGOT THAT I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. AN IMPORTANT
ONE. I MUST LEAVE NOW IF I'M TO MAKE IT BACK IN TIME FOR
HEATHER'S MEETING. I'M... SORRY.

Panel 4. Aurora suddenly flies off, leaving a stunned Jeffries behind.

Panel 5. A close up of a stunned Jeffries.

JEFFRIES: WHAT THE HECK DID I DO?!

PAGE FOURTEEN (5 Panels)

Panel 1. Box and Puck sit in another room in the mansion, playing chess.

PUCK: WE'VE BEEN PLAYING THIS SAME GAME FOR TWO WEEKS,
WALTER. I'M STARTING TO GET THE FEELING THAT YOU'RE STALLING.

BOX: HA. YOU WISH. AND WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? WITH ALL OF THE
TRAINING WE'VE BEEN DOING, WE BARELY GET FIVE MINUTES AT A TIME
FOR ANY KIND OF R&R.

Panel 2. A shot of Puck, looking concerned.

PUCK: TRUTH BE TOLD, I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU RESTING OR RELAXING
SINCE THE... UH... ACCIDENT. ARE YOU... OKAY? BOTH OF YOU?

Panel 3. A shot of Box. If the machine is capable of showing emotions, he
doesn't look so happy right now.

BOX: WELL, I DON'T WANT TO SPEAK FOR ROGER, BUT KEEPING BUSY
HELPS ME KEEP MY MIND OFF THIS... SITUATION.

Panel 4. A shot of both of them, the chess game forgotten.

PUCK: I CAN ONLY IMAGINE. I KNOW HOW MANY HOURS YOU'VE BEEN
PUTTING INTO YOUR RESEARCH.

BOX: WHEN YOU NO LONGER EAT NOR SLEEP, YOU NEED TO FILL THAT
TIME WITH SOMETHING.

Panel 5. A shot of Puck again, looking down at the chess board.

PUCK: I WISH I COULD HELP IN SOME WAY BUT I HAVE NO MIND FOR
SCIENCE OR TECHNOLOGY. NEVER SAT STILL LONG ENOUGH TO LEARN
THAT STUFF. NOW, IF YOU NEEDED HELP TRAVELING THE WORLD, I
COULD--

PAGE FIFTEEN (6 Panels)

Panel 1. But Box isn't listening. A shot of Box, looking to the right.

BOX: WHENEVER HEATHER DOESN'T HAVE US RUNNING THROUGH
TRAINING EXERCISES, ROGER AND I HAVE BEEN CAMPED OUT IN THE
LAB, WORKING THROUGH CALCULATIONS THAT COULD GET BOTH OF US
OUT OF HERE. IT'S DAMN FRUSTRATING!

Panel 2. Another shot of Box but his head is turned the other way, as if he's
arguing with someone (which he is... kind of?).

BOX: HOW DO YOU THINK I FEEL? YOUR BODY IS GONE! BUT MINE IS
SITTING IN STASIS DOWNSTAIRS! PROBABLY WITHERING AWAY!

Panel 3. His head is turned to the right again!

BOX: DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW THAT, ROGER?! I'VE BEEN PUSHING
MYSELF TO THE LIMIT TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM! BUT WE ARE BOTH
RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PREDICAMENT! SO DON'T START IN ON THE--

Panel 4. Back to the left!

BOX: DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO, LANGOWSKI! YOU THINK YOU'RE
BETTER THAN EVERYONE, ALWAYS TALKING DOWN TO ME, AND I'M SICK
OF IT!

Panel 5. Box smashes the chess board! Puck leaps out of the way!

SFX: FWAMM!

Panel 6. A shot of Puck, holding his hands up.

PUCK: UHH... MAYBE WE SHOULD TRY PLAYING CHECKERS NEXT TIME,
EH?

PAGE SIXTEEN (5 Panels)

Panel 1. A dark room. If we look closely, we can see the barely-lit
silhouette of Shaman in the dark. He's sitting criss-cross-apple-sauce and
he's floating a few feet off the ground.

SHAMAN: HEAR ME, O GRANDFATHER. I... FIND MYSELF AT A
CROSSROADS... FILLED WITH DOUBT LIKE NEVER BEFORE. I REQUIRE
YOUR GUIDANCE.

Panel 2. A close up of Shaman's face. He's not looking so great.

SHAMAN: MAKE YOURSELF KNOWN, IF YOU HAVE THE POWER TO REACH
ME FROM THE GREAT BEYOND.

Panel 3. Similar panel as panel #1. Nothing is happening. It's not working.

Panel 4. A close up of Shaman's face again. But now it's filled with
disappointment and... is that fear?

SHAMAN: I LOST MY WIFE. I HAVE LOST MY DAUGHTER... AGAIN. AM I
NOW EVEN LOSING MY POWERS?

Panel 5. Shaman opens up his pouch, determined. He has his hand up,
ready to reach in.

SHAMAN: PERHAPS MY MEDICINE POUCH CAN HELP ME--

PAGE SEVENTEEN (4 Panels)

Panel 1. A big panel. The top half of the page. A horrifying creature
appears/grows out of the pouch, knocking Shaman to the floor! The room is
brighter than before, an unnatural light emanating from the pouch as well!
The creature should be absolutely terrifying, something out of the most
primordial nightmare. Shaman is completely rattled.

CREATURE (MONSTER FONT): YOU HAVE DISTURBED THE VOID, MICHAEL
TWOYOUNGMEN, AND NOW YOU SHALL EXPERIENCE SUFFERING UNLIKE
ANY OTHER IN THE HISTORY OF YOUR PATHETIC SPECIES!

Panel 2. A close up of Shaman, his eyes closed.

SHAMAN: THIS... THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING.

Panel 3. Same shot, but now his eyes are open.

Panel 4. The room is back to normal. Shaman is still on the floor, in the
same position.

SHAMAN: WHA...WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME...?

PAGE EIGHTEEN (5 Panels)

Panel 1. Jeffries walks through the forest, heading back to the clearing.

JEFFRIES: WHAT AM I EVEN DOING HERE? I'M NO HERO. MAYBE I
SHOULD JUST GO BACK TO DIGGIN' DITCHES.

VOICE (OFF PANEL): DO YOU ALWAYS TALK TO YOURSELF, JEFFRIES?

Panel 2. Jeffries looks up and watches as Puck does one of his classic
Byrne jumps (multiple Puck figures, none of them full color except the final
one as he lands on the ground), flipping down from a tree branch high
above.

JEFFRIES: PUCK!

PUCK: THE ONE AND ONLY!

Panel 3. Puck looks up at Jeffries.

PUCK: WHERE'S AURORA? I THOUGHT I SAW YOU TWO HEADING OFF
TOGETHER AFTER THE TRAINING EXERCISE.

JEFFRIES: UHH....SHE SAID SHE HAD AN APPOINTMENT? I DON'T KNOW.
AS SOON AS I SHED THE GUARDIAN ARMOR, SHE KINDA... FREAKED OUT,
I GUESS.

Panel 4. A shot of Puck as he considers this.

PUCK: HMM... INTERESTING. SHE'S SEEMED MORE STABLE THE PAST
FEW WEEKS, AT LEAST COMPARATIVELY SPEAKING, BUT I WONDER IF
THE STRAIN OF EVERYTHING IS FINALLY STARTING TO WEAR ON HER.

Panel 5. The two walk towards the mansion.

JEFFRIES: WHAT D'YA MEAN?

PUCK: WELL... YOU'RE NEW TO ALPHA, BUT NOW THAT YOU'RE PART OF
THE TEAM, YOU SHOULD GET ALL THE NECESSARY INFO ON YOUR
TEAMMATES. AFTER ALL, THAT KIND OF THING CAN BE PRETTY DARN
IMPORTANT IN LIFE AND DEATH SITUATIONS.

PAGE NINETEEN (5 Panels)

Panel 1. Another shot of Puck.

PUCK: AURORA IS A... PASSIONATE PERSON. HER RELATIONSHIP WITH
HER BROTHER... HER TWIN BROTHER... HAS BEEN HIGHLY DRAMATIC
FROM THE MOMENT THEY FIRST MET AS ADULTS.

Panel 2. Another shot of the two of them walking as Puck waxes
philosophic.

PUCK: AND LET'S NOT FORGET WALTER. BACK WHEN HE WAS STILL
SASQUATCH, HE AND AURORA WERE APPARENTLY... INVOLVED, TO PUT
IT MILDLY. BUT NOW THAT WALTER IS TRAPPED WITH ROGER INSIDE
BOX... WELL, AURORA HASN'T EXACTLY BEEN WARM WITH HIM.PUCK:
THEN THERE'S OUR NEW HEADQUARTERS, THIS ESTATE. FROM WHAT I
KNOW, THIS WAS ACTUALLY WALTER'S FAMILY HOME. AND THE LAST
TIME HE AND AURORA WERE HERE, THEY HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE
WITH A WOMAN NAMED GILDED LILY*.

PUCK: HARD TO IMAGINE HOW ALL OF THESE FACTORS WOULD PLAY ON
AURORA'S MIND. AND DON'T THINK I HAVEN'T NOTICED HOW SHE ACTS
AROUND YOU... GUARDIAN.

*AS SEEN IN ALPHA FLIGHT #20-21

Panel 3. A shot of Jeffries, who holds up his hands in a placating manner.

JEFFRIES: LOOK, IT SURPRISED ME AS MUCH AS ANYONE WHEN
HEATHER SUGGESTED I TRY RECREATING MAC'S SUIT. I FIGURED SHE
WOULD HAVE NO INTEREST IN SEEING ANOTHER GUARDIAN FLYING
AROUND...AFTER WHAT SHE WENT THROUGH IN NEW YORK.*

*SEE ALPHA FLIGHT #12 FOR THE TRAGIC BACKSTORY

Panel 4. A shot of Puck. He has a thoughtful look on his face.

PUCK: HEATHER IS A STRONG WOMAN. PROBABLY THE STRONGEST
WOMAN I'VE EVER MET. AND I'VE TRAVELED ALL OVER THE WORLD...
BEEN TO PLACES MOST PEOPLE HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF, EH? SHE
UNDERSTANDS HOW IMPORTANT GUARDIAN WAS... IS TO ALPHA FLIGHT.
AND TO CANADA. AND THE WORLD.

PUCK: TO BE HONEST, EVERYONE'S SPIRITS HAVE REALLY SEEMED TO
PICK UP SINCE YOU JOINED THE TEAM.

Panel 5. The two of them arrive at the clearing from the beginning of the
issue.

JEFFRIES: WELL... I'LL DO MY BEST TO FILL MAC'S SHOES. BUT I HAVE
TO SAY... I DON'T EXACTLY FEEL LIKE A HERO MOST OF THE TIME.

PUCK: MY FRIEND, THAT IS THE FIRST SIGN THAT YOU MIGHT JUST BE
ON YOUR WAY TO ACTUALLY BECOMING ONE.

VOICE (OFF PANEL): HELLO, GENTLEMEN.

PAGE TWENTY (5 Panels)

Panel 1. Heather arrives at the clearing.

HEATHER: FULL MARKS FOR PUNCTUALITY, YOU TWO.

Panel 2. A shot of the three of them.

PUCK: I WAS JUST GIVING JEFFRIES HERE A HISTORY LESSON ON THE
TEAM.

HEATHER: GOOD IDEA, JUDD. AND SPEAKING OF WHICH... WHERE IS
EVERYONE?

Panel 3. A shot of Shaman, still in that room, still on the floor, holding his
head in his hands.

HEATHER (NARRATION BOX): I HAD TEA WITH MICHAEL EARLIER BUT HE
SAID HE NEEDED SOME TIME TO MEDITATE.

Panel 4. A shot of Jeffries and Puck.

PUCK: NORTHSTAR AND SNOWBIRD FLEW OFF RIGHT AFTER THE
TRAINING EXERCISE. I'M SURPRISED THEY AREN'T BACK YET,
CONSIDERING HOW FAST THOSE TWO CAN MOVE.

JEFFRIES: AURORA TOOK OFF, TOO. I'M NOT SURE WHEN SHE'LL BE
BACK.

Panel 5. A shot of Heather talking to Puck.

HEATHER: AND BOX?

PUCK: I'M GUESSING HE... THEY ARE DOWN IN THE LAB, WORKING ON A
WAY TO GET FREE OF THEIR ARMOR, EH? THEY SEEMED... PRETTY
STRESSED EARLIER.

PAGE TWENTY-ONE (5 Panels)

Panel 1. A shot of Heather as she stares into the distance.

HEATHER: WE REALLY SEEMED TO BE COMING TOGETHER AS A TEAM
EARLIER. IT'S A LITTLE DISHEARTENING TO THINK WE'VE ALREADY LOST
THAT MOMENTUM. PERHAPS IT'S MY FAULT.

Panel 2. A shot of Puck, who stares up at Heather.

PUCK: HEATHER, WE BOTH KNOW THAT YOU'RE THE HEART OF THIS
TEAM, AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN. DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP. I'M SURE
EVERYONE WILL BE HERE SOON ENOU....

HEATHER: WHAT'S THE MATTER, JUDD?

Panel 3. A shot of Puck. He's got his head cocked, as if he's just heard
something strange.

PUCK: ALL THE BIRDS SUDDENLY JUST WENT SILENT. SOMETHING'S
WRONG.

Panel 4. A shot of all three of them, looking bad ass and ready for action.

HEATHER: JEFFRIES! SUIT UP! YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO CAN--

Panel 5. Too late! They're all zapped by a burst of energy!!

SFX: BZZZZZAAACCCCCCK!!

PAGE TWENT-TWO (Splash)

Splash. The Master has arrived! He should be recognizable but his outfit
has been somewhat altered since last we saw him, making him look even
scarier/more dangerous than before. Heather, Puck and Jeffries are
unconscious at his feet.

MASTER: WHAT A PITY! I HAD HOPED TO DEFEAT THEM ALL AT ONCE...
BUT NO MATTER. NOW I CAN SAVOR THE PLEASURE OF DESTROYING
THIS GROUP OF INTERLOPERS, ONE BY ONE. AT LONG LAST...

MASTER: THE MASTER WILL HAVE HIS VENGEANCE ON ALPHA FLIGHT!

NARRATION BOX: TO BE CONTINUED IN 30 DAYS!
