Some sound effects stickers from the 1970s (and the issue that contained them)

For me, Don Martin cartoons were always a big part of anticipating the next issue of MAD, or looking through old ones.

I always liked that Al Feldstein forward to Don Martin Steps Out.  A proper roast of a deeply talented long-time colleague.

""Nineteen years ago, a shy unassuming talented artist walked into the MAD offices with a collection of the funniest, the cleverest, the most absurd cartoons we had ever seen. When we gathered around to look them over, we literally rolled on the floor laughing. The cartoonist's name was Charles Addams.

Unfortunately, we couldn't afford Charles Addams, so we hired the next guy to walk in after him... a virtually unknown cartoonist named Don Martin."

Anyone recall the book with the noir adventures of the public notary?

I liked MAD a lot. But they were hit and miss on occasion... just a feature that didn't hit me as funny.

But two creators NEVER missed the mark for me... Don Martin and Sergio Aragones. Those damned sound effects were a whole joke in themselves. LOVED THEM.

Dave K. - I sure remember Lance Parkertip, noted notary public. Martin was nuts, but his style was hilarious and unmistakable.

Here's a page that has haunted me since reading it in an issue of Mad...

And here are a couple of his super sound effects...

I love MAD, and Don Martin is an essential element. I bought as many of his
paperbacks that I could get my hands on when I was growing up, and it
continued up to THE COMPLETELY MAD DON MARTIN, which was the 2007
two volume hardcover edition from MAD's Greatest Artists series.

I had to check, and was pleased to find I have that hardcover collection.

Need to find some time to peruse it again.

I was wise enough to order a copy of this when it was first released.

I have a copy as well, and if I recall correctly, I
learned about it here! Thanks, JBF!
