Panel 2 is a stand-out for me, but it's also really cool to see the "perspective grid" (apologies if there is a correct name that I don't know) underlying the finished pencils in other panels - so much craft that normally goes unseen!

Perspective grid is the term I use, and I am never worng.

Jean's dialogue and facial expressions are doing a good job of selling the changes within Jean/Phoenix to the audience.  Reminds me a bit of Toni Collette and her character's multiple personality disorder in "The United States Of Tara". With that in mind, I imagine it's much harder to show the audience what is occurring on a static page, limited ways to show changes in pitch of voice, mannerisms etc...  Without giving anything away, I'm feeling that Jean's voice is slightly higher, more sing-songish, and prone to emotion than usual.

It's just as much fun for me to marvel at the backgrounds as much as the figure work. I also love the "flow" in the third panel, which makes it feel as if we are walking through the entrance with Wolverine.

Jean and Wolverine fought side by side against Krakoa. Certainly there was no time for formal introductions then, but are you suggesting they ignored each other on the flight home?

How rude!

++++

Ah, I see I wasn't clear. I didn't mean they first met in #97, but between the two encounters you mention (flight home and X-Mas eve) there was another, which of course changes nothing to what you said.

I find this "happy Phoenix" as frightening as Dark Phoenix.

Peter and Kitty's expressions are really great!

So true – She's got a truly scary "wish them into the cornfield" vibe going on here. LITERAL VOIDS are a really weird thing to think about.

As usual, Scott picked up on things instantly and seems to have a plan!

Here's what I thought it might be... remember when Homer Simpson went nuts over the picture of dogs playing poker? Something like that.

As if the title wasn't already spot-on, "light and darkness" now brings to mind the Twilight Zone ...

What gives me some degree of comfort is thinking Scott has a good idea what's going on here.
