Probably not anybody else's first choice, but I though Geof Isherwood's illustrative style was a wonderful fit for Doctor Strange.

Frank Brunner is the classic for me but I could look at that Michael Golden issue (#55) forever.

Never really Isherwood's Strange before. It looks like Golden, Guice and Colon all got to put in 2 cents!
For me, there are many who can draw a lovely Doctor and even an evocative Sanctum. But when they start having to use spells and devise battles of the mystic arts, there are few who seem to be able to keep very much of Steve Ditko's original playbook in the mix and that is when I, personally, start to feel an issue.
This does not refer to Isherwood's work, I haven't seen enough of it. I'm just saying what I end up using as a measuring stick when it comes to Doctor Strange.

Paul Smith.
I have come to appreciate Gene Colan’s Dr. Strange (and Colan’s other work) but hated it as a kid. I think I need to look @ Brunner’s issues. I’ve always liked what I’ve seen of his version but don’t really know the comics.

Gene Colan makes anything look beautiful, but that Brunner/Strange pairing (especially 1970's Dr. Strange with that bushier hair and Englehart's psychedelic storylines) was the perfect marriage of character and artist, like Neal Adams & Batman or (my favorites) Sal Buscema & Captain America, Romita Sr. & Spider-Man, Curt Swan & Clark Kent, and John Buscema & Conan.

Geof Isherwood and Jackson Guice were good fits for Dr. Strange, but were let down by lacklustre stories at the time, and those dreaded Marvel 90's crossovers and guest spots.

Michael Golden - the Dr Strange portfolio he did in the early 80s (maybe late 70s) was bloody incredible.
