That one splash page tells a whole story by itself, no words, just three characters in a dynamic pose. This relates to the other thread about action vs talk-- this panel doesn't NEED words! We get it! Superlative example of artistic storytelling, JB.

Thanks Paulo and Gerry! What a credit to Johns artistic skill that I was able to glean the gist of the situation from just one image. I will look around for that trade, with luck my local library will have it, they're pretty good about their trade collection, and I'm cash-deprived until my wife goes back to work (school starts)!

The tragedy of this piece is not Cap's regret, nor the pure evil of Baron Blood - it's the fact that the Stern/Byrne Cap was cut short through editorial stupidity! Imagine what additional awesome Captain America work they could have produced together! It could have been a dynasty!
Still, I'm grateful for what we got. The best Cap run ever!

Yep, and the Japanese, too. There's a number of Golden-Age covers with Captain America sporting a machine gun and other weapons, firing on enemy soldiers.

I think a more accurate description might be "pure". When I see pencils from any artist, I love looking at the detail they put in or leave out. It's art in its most pure, raw form.
And that is a gorgeous piece.
