Absolutely staggering, just got online from work and boom.

Unreal.  The guy was a living legend.  And now a legend for all time.

Too early to process.  Shocked.

Very sad news. My hero drummer who also wrote some of the best lyrics ever.

Neil is a hero of mine. Firstly, as a drummer. I discovered Rush around the same time that I took up drumming in grade school. Over the years of listening to his lyrics, reading his books and seeing them in concert, he became a hero to me as a person. I felt for him when he lost his daughter and wife in the 90s, period he wrote about in his book Ghost Rider. Later, I found solace in that book and Rush's Vapor Trails album when I lost my own wife three years ago. I never met the man, but this feels like a personal loss.

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect...

I only had to see him once in concert (way back in the mid 90's) to know that he was the best I would ever see or hear. Rest in peace.

Gutted, i don`t have sporting heroes or acting heroes,
but Neil was my musical hero for his lyrics, his amazing
percussion skills, his book writing and how he coped
with familial tragedy. R.I.P.When he gave up drumming a
few years ago due to Tendonitis, and wanting to spend
more time with his young daughter, i expected him to
release more books, sadly this may be why.

Edited to add, BBC News just said had brain cancer for 3
and a half years.

Sad to hear about Peart, I was never a big Rush fan but his talent and influence is undeniable and one of the few things in life that it seems everyone agrees on.

Very sad news.

One of the GREATEST rock drummers ever.

And such deep insightful lyrics. Not a typical song writer.

Rest In Peace Mr. Peart.
