Just a note to say that Mike Parobeck died July 2, 1996. While he wasn't an artist for a long length of time I believe he made a mark on comics. For those who don't know he did The Fly, Batman Adventures, and Justice Society of America. Due to complications with diabetes he died at 31.

A true talent.  His JSA work in particular is an underrated gem.

We have this same thread every year, and it's meaningful.

Mike is missed.

I have everything he worked on, and love them all.

The action, the whimsy, the economy...good stuff.

Holy Crap !!

I had NO idea !!

I just figured the guy wasn't doing comics anymore.  I love his work - I too felt his JSA book was one of the finest for that group.

Man, am I out of the loop or what?

That's ok pat, I didn't learn until around 2000 or so what had happened.

Loved his art.  His work on JSA was what comic books are all about.

I liked him on El Diablo, but the Justice Society title was not my cup of tea. To be fair, I think I had more problems with the stories portraying the JSA as a bunch of whiny, rickety old has-beens, than I had problems with the art. I really liked his style on the Batman Animated material.

31 is much, much too young.

His heroes did noble heroic acts and smiled.

I honestly believe he would have been acknowledged as one of the greats if he'd been around a few more years.  A terrible loss.

I disagree with Ron's opinion of the Justice Society series that featured Parobeck's stunning artwork.

I thought that the series was topknotch and if DC had chosen to promote the title the least little bit, we may have been treated to a long running depiction of the venerable group prior to the recently relaunched & current version.

Parobeck's artistic style was deceptively simple in appearance, but it truly resonated with feeling and power.  He was easily able to jump on the bandwagon of Batman animated-style illustrators, but his work rose above most others with the same penchant.

His all too early passing was tragic and he is missed by this fan.

I thought his JSA looked a bit rushed at times with some wonky proportions, it may have been mainly because of the Atom who's not supposed to be the same body height as the rest or it may have been just having to draw so many characters at the same time. But I still loved that series that felt like it was continually picking up speed as it went along only to be cancelled, based not on sales but editorial fiat.

El Diablo was a great series and a great character. Always thought it funny that it was one of his earlier titles, a very serious and well thought out character that had it's own voice and dealt with serious issues. And Parobeck would later mainly be associated with lighter books, books aimed mainly for the children market.
