Not strictly toy related, but this thread sent me Googling Galactus.

[Dr. Smith voice] Oh, the pain. The pain.

Short and sweet, to anyone and everyone (especially writer): Galactus is NOT a villain. He is NOT evil. He does NOT need to be “punished”.* If you can’t wrap your brains around that, stay as far away from the character as humanly possible.

______________

* Tho good stories can be generated around characters who think he does!

I saw the preview of the foot, thought oh wow, could I hope?

& then saw the reveal & thought ‘Well, @ least I don’t have to sell any
comics to get this’.
Such a disappointment, I’ll stick with my old BAF one.

Here’s a bit of irony - they say in the publicity material that there are a
few bit they knew they had to absolutely nail - the headpiece being one
of them.

Pity they didn’t nail that then isn’t it.

The Galactus statue is nicely detailed, but there's too much struggle in his face. And he has a body proportioned like Steve Rogers. Shouldn't he be thicker? Weightier?

Is that what Galactus looks like now? whose art is that based on?

 A pass for me too.

Seems hardly anyone wants to just look at Kirby's original--except when they're being so-ooooooh cute and including the "G" on his chest.

When I drew the character I tried to distill various Kirby versions--he really didn't draw him the same way twice, even from panel to panel--and was, I think, mostly successful. Couldn't ever seem to get that massive helmet right, tho.

It was indeed gratifying when HeroClix used my version for their large figure.

Why is he snarling? Why would a being above the concepts of 'good' and 'evil' ever have anything but a calm demeanor? Those ear things...

While I wouldn’t want to see it as a representative expression, I have drawn an angered Galactus from time to time. I figure even he has his limits!

The New York Times did an interesting article about the crowdfunding of these toys, and they even feature the Galactus figure:

NY Times: "Toymakers Create Their Dream Projects (but Ask for Money Upfront)"
