It has finally filtered thru to my muddled old brain why some of you are mystified by the date on that cover.  That is PRINTED on the paper stock, and represent the vintage of that particular format.  Since Marvel would, from time to time, update or in some way alter the layout (or simply have to "refresh" the image after copies of copies of copies resulted in a loss of quality) it became the habit to date the original, so that it would be easy to spot an "old" board vs a new one.

JB--Thanks for clarifying that information about "Dec. 4, 1986."  That makes perfect sense.

Follow-up question, if you (or anyone else) can answer it:  Why is "Curtiss Way" written at the top of so many original Marvel covers in the 1960s?  Were they a coloring house/separator?  I've also seen "Sparta" and "World Color" written in that position (upper left margin) on original cover art.

One of my friends just emailed me a page with ROG on it. He said it was from The sensational She Hulk #8............ Great expression on ROG.

JB,

Weren't you concerned that the 'House of Ideas' just might take Roger and do unspeakable things with him (You know like clone him/ Kill him, bring him back only to kill him again/ Turn him evil then redeem him/ Or better yet reveal he is is actually a mutant?)?

I long ago gave up on the notion that anything I ever do in a "shared
universe" could be bulletproof.
