I fail to see how a page featuring Reagan as the president is "Reaganism." Reagan was the president at the time and the story called for interacting with the president. It was all a pretty standard encounter. Was this "pro-Reagan" simply because it didn't demonize the man? ------------------ I think this was a case of poor phrasing. Jesus sees the 80's in the run. I think some culture of the time is going to slip in any book, but it is not like Clark Kent was sporting thin ties and Jimmy was wearing Member's Only jackets. That would be like giving Superman a mullet in the 90's. ;)

How can anyone think that JB was pushing Reaganism in that page posted above. Superman says 'Though I strongly disagree with your edict, i fully intend to obey it' That looks more like respecting the chain of command and those in authority to me.

Never let facts get in the way of someones opinions. If the writer is good at their job you never know their politics in stories such as Superman. The reader then brings their "baggage" to the table not the writer. We find what we want to see or when we don't see something it then confirms our theories in different ways. We can't possibly be wrong. Can we?

Reagan in the LEGENDS miniseries is a topical reference. He basically fills the role of president. There's no political statement made. (Yes, his edict is wrong but we're meant to sympathize somewhat with his decision.)
That's of course how comics should be (but aren't anymore, unfortunately).

Right, only that I would say he definitely fills that role because, well, he WAS President at that time.
JFK, Jimmy Carter, Nixon, Obama... all and more have appeared in Marvel and DC comics as President during their terms in office as topical references. The appearance alone does not mean any political statement is being put forth. It's just a way to make the story seem "real" to readers at that period in time.

John Byrne didn't write LEGENDS and I recall JB stating:
"I was strictly the art robot on LEGENDS, as it turned out. I was supposed to be more -- in fact, I had completely replotted the series as a condition of doing it -- but once the contracts were signed and work was begun, things were "tweaked" back to how they had been before I came aboard.
