I`d be happier with a Rogues Gallery of Flash
villains, new and existing rather than one stretched over
the season.

Savitar had to kill Iris so Barry would go down the dark path and create
Savitar. But why did Savitar have to kill her at that exact moment for
that to happen? Couldn't he have just killed her at any point for that to
happen, like a few hours later when he was standing right next to her?

-----

More to the point, why didn't Savitar just fade away once Barry learned
his identity. The whole point of killing Iris was to create the chain of
events that would lead to the Flash creating time remnants to defeat
Savitar. Once he knew who and what Savitar was, Barry just needed to
decide not to do that.

With the use of Heat Wave and Captain Cold in LEGENDS, I think they
missed an opportunity to depict the Rogues as an actual gang of Flash
Villains. That is what I want to see. Use the Rogues throughout the
season and end with a big Rogue War.

It was a tipping point for Barry.  Once Iris was saved, he knew he could defeat Savitar.  He had hope, where he had none before.  Prior to that, nothing worked.  It was HR that altered things and gave Barry hope.

As for why Savitar didn't fade away immediately....  I guess it took time for time to catch up to him.

Thanks. I liked this season better than last season, but I hope at some point they get away from the perpetual sadness in the show.

I'll repeat what someone said at another board, that I completely agree with:

The last five minutes was utter bullshit.

Also, I loved the Doctor Who reference. Chuckled at that.

The ending is testimony to the show's inconsistencies. Once the time stream was changed/altered/eradicated, Savitar should have disappeared immediately, just like Reverse Flash did in season one.

And the whole "speed force needs a prisoner" is the stupidest concept in the show.

Perhaps Reverse Flash's 'instant' disappearance in season 1 was one of the things that was eradicated?;-)

After a few days marinating, thoughts on the finale and season:
  • I still feel like Wally and Iris were mishandled (the former not really being given a chance to redeem himself as a character and the latter being given pretty much zero agency up until the last two episodes).
  • I like the idea of Savitar being evil Barry, but I think a lot of the dramatic potential was wasted by holding off on the reveal until the 11th hour (or is that the 22nd hour?).  Imagine how much stronger the season would have been if Barry and the team knew who they were really facing by the end of the first half, making the back half of the season a much stronger character arc for all involved.
  • Closing two episodes did a much better job of delivering action and drama that anything in the previous couple of months, which is problematic since action and drama are the things that the series runs on (melodrama, we had plenty of).
  • I like the set up for the next season, and it's promising to see Jay back with the cast - assuming he'll be part of the team for the first arc of next season.  So the last handful of episodes did bring me back on board, considering there was a point where I wondered if I even wanted to finish out this season.
For next season, my big hopes:
  • Use the opportunity to have Wally mature in stepping up as the Flash.
  • Make sure the team learns their lessons about withholding information from each other.
  • Give Iris something active to do other than pine for Barry.
  • Keep Julian around, integrate him more into the adventures (the show seemed to work better when he acted as part of the team).  I could never quite figure out the logic of his presence, but what the heck - logic and this show have only a passing acquaintance.
  • And of course: NO MORE GODDAMN EVIL SPEEDSTERS.  Jiminy Christmas, they've done it to death.
