My scanner was being a bit quirky, yesterday, so in order to post this I thought I'd try taking a good, clear shot with the camera in my iPhone. At max, the resolution on that amazing little device is good enough that I can use pictures I take with it in NEW VISIONS.

Here's a reduced version of the original color image, before cropping and a bit of distortion correction:

The original is 4034x2032 dpi.

This one is so very cool. The layout has me stunned. The pair of Sentinel legs and an arm is just cool as hell.

HOLY COW!
I think this is the commission that breaks the bank, in terms of all the elements requested. What a picture!
JB, this is just stunning.

Mr. Byrne, an observation... I always love your renditions of Phoenix - both classically elegant while what seems a simple design.

But anytime I see Phoenix in a drawing, I immediately think "That's it. Fight's over." Something like when the Hulk or Superman show up for a fight. Unless the menace is specifically designed to challenge that character - which makes the other characters somewhat overmatched - I figure that the discussion is done.

Is that a consideration to you when you're using Phoenix in your commissions? Was it during your X-Men run? Or was it more of having to devise a situation that will challenge all the X-Men equally?

Awesome piece.

JB- How would you imagine the Sentinels dealing with the Juggernaut?

••

One of the reasons behind turning Phoenix into a villain was that she was so powerful (with Chris' handling, no matter what I drew!) that she was turning the X-Men into fifth wheels in their own book. By making her a villain, Chris could let loose, but not diminish the rest of the gang.

Juggernaut wins. He always wins. As I have been saying for 30+ years, even the Destroyer wouldn't stop him (I think!). ;)

Juggernaut is a magical being, and magic is hard to beat. I suppose Dr. Strange might have a chance. And Kitty could kill him. But I suspect we'd rather she didn't do that.

Without getting too much into thread drift (always a crime of mine, sorry), it's why I'm so intrigued by Juggernaut VS Destroyer. Both near-unstoppable, both akin to forces of nature and both have magical properties. I can't predict it!
