I just read the following:

 QUOTE:
Marvel has found the cast of its New Warriors TV show...

Vayntrub’s delightful nut eater/butt kicker will be one of two leads in the 10-episode first season, alongside Baby Daddy’s Derek Theler as Mr. Immortal.

Mister Immortal? Really??

JB has made so many great contributions to comicdom; Mister Immortal is good, but far from his best. When do the NextMen get their due?

I hope JB gets a nice check out of it, tho.

So, how many people will accuse me of stealing Mr. Immortal from Captain Jack (TORCHWOOD)?

I'm not looking forward to this New Warriors show, which Marvel describes on their website:

"“Marvel’s New Warriors” is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once — except in this world, bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates"

Probably going to be another POWERLESS.

I don't get how you can connect that description, which seems reasonable given the series and the audience of Free Form, with Powerless.

It suggests a glib, casual approach to the genre. Don't get me wrong, I love comedic superheroes (Giffen's Justice League and JB's She-Hulk). But you've got to respect the basic conventions of the genre to make it work. Equating bad guys to bad dates is not a good start.

Is this the series that Squirrel Girl is going to be in too?  I saw a headline that she'd been cast, but the site kept asking me to disable my popup blocker to view the article so I skipped it.

Joe, I get where you are coming from. Perhaps if bad dates had been equated with bad guys, instead? I see, now, where the description lessons the impact of one rather than increasing, in a metaphorical sense, the impact of the other.

Still, comparing anything to Powerless is just cruel at this point! Oh that was awful.

It would be good if the New Warriors show turned out to be decent. The New Warriors is a favorite of mine in my late teens.

So, this is going to be a mix of GREAT LAKES AVENGERS and NEW WARRIORS and (pardon my ignorance) was Squirrel Girl a member of either team?

Still, it's cool that Ditko's last two Marvel creations (SQ and Speedball)--as well as JB's Mr. Immortal--are getting their own TV show.

And since these are mostly lighthearted characters, it's hard to complain if the show takes a fun approach.  (Better than what they did with Speedball in the comics.)

She joined the Great Lakes Avengers briefly.

You would think that a New Warriors show that has Night Thrasher on the team, would have him be the lead character since he founded and led the team in the comics. Funny how Hollywood likes to pat itself on the back whenever they hire a Black (or Asian or Latino or Native American) actor to play a white character for the sake of diversity, but they have an actual Black character in a show play 3rd fiddle to two white characters who were never associated with the New Warriors. I just love Hollywood's self righteous hypocrisy.

Rick - your New Warriors comparison makes me think of the slight similarity with the Young Justice cartoon that had Robin on the team, but insisted that Aqualad was the leader. Aqualad was a young man of color (Atlantean though...) but practically speaking, in genre, I cannot imagine a team with Robin on it where he wasn't the leader. Except maybe for "Batman and-".

I'm guessing this is less a New Warriors show and more a Squirrel Girl show with supporting cast. Squirrel Girl is the one with Freeform's tween/teen following.

Eric, the two situations aren't exactly the same. First of all, Aqualad wasn't marketed as and treated as the lead/main character in the Young Justice cartoon. Second of all, Robin was the first leader of the team and then stepped down when his first mission as leader failed, but took over as leader again in the 2nd season as Nightwing when Aqualad was pretending to work for Black Manta. He passed the leadership back to Aqualad in the last episode of the 2nd season when he decided to take some time off from the team. It was also stated early on in the first season (by Aqualad himself) that Robin was born to lead the team, but wasn't ready to do so at that time.

Michael, I think that is indeed the case. Which begs the question, why didn't they just make this a solo Squirrel Girl TV series?
