Agreed. His star rose and set so quickly that I think many don't even know who he was, but to a certain segment of people of a certain age they know exactly who he was.  He had his demons but I'll be damned if I don't listen to his music quite regularly.  This one hits me pretty hard.

Rest in Peace, David.

I agree Matt. If I recall, we are about the same age (50) so his brother Shaun was more in our direct radar but we all watched the Partridge Family reruns and definitely knew who he was.

Definitely remember watching Partridge Family reruns as a kid.... David Cassidy lived up to all the hype. Condolences to his family and friends, which include his only daughter - actress Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance from Arrow).

-C!

"Daydreamer" is a beautiful song, one of many.

Condolences to his family.

He did a lot of work. I just found out he guest-starred  on Adam-12 once.

He and his brother did a production of the musical Blood Brothers on Broadway and it was quite good.  RIP David.

He was doing sold out concerts and The Partridge Family simultaneously.

Like a lot of girls of the time, my sister had magazine pages of him taped to her bedroom walls.

In  my capacity as researcher on  Channel 4’s' Bliss' pop show that we made at Border TV in Carlisle in the UK in 1985  I booked David Cassidy as ‘guest co-presenter’ alongside the show’s regular host Muriel Gray. He’d chat to Muriel, do a bit of presenting interview one of the other guests and mime his new single. We were going to get our money's worth. Musicians Union minimum rates for miming at the time, as I recall

As we needed to start recording our programmes at 10 in the morning so that BTV's crew would be available by 4 pm for their day jobs on the 'Lookaround' news magazine most guests came up the night before. So, the evening prior to the recording, I go over to the  Carlisle hotel  where David was staying to say hello and chat through what would be happening on the show

Harry, the director, had come up with the idea of having David (now trying to establish himself as a singer-songwriter), playing his guitar and singing/miming in a cherry picker that we'd raise over the studio audience on the souped-up barbecue set that we had erected in BTV's car park where, due to Border’s lack of studio space, we recorded the programme. We'd keep the supporting arm out of shot so it looked like David was floating over the crowd.

There was one other detail I needed to play down. I'm running through the set-up with David, and as I'm doing so I'm thinking,"This sounds so bloody naff...." .When I'm nearing the end, Cassidy leans back, draws on a cigar that's almost as big as he is and says;
"Hey Ian, this isn't going to look........wanky, is it?"

"No, of course not David......."

It was probably the pink balloons that Harry was having draped around
the platform that Cassidy was going to be standing on that gave it away.
To his credit come filming David gets on the cherry picker, pink balloons and all and carries it off like a true pro. He was a nice guy and I’m sorry to hear of his passing.

And......to prove I'm not making this up....and to eyeball the biggest bunch of pink balloons you'll ever see...here's the YouTube link; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo43C9BdRGQ

Pretty wanky. Looks like he is drowning in balloons.

Seriously, cool memory Ian.

"I Think I Love You" gets my vote as probably one of the all-time Top 10 singles of the 1970s.  Slightly eerie and unsettling at first during the verse, then glorious vocals from Cassidy during the chorus.

And I watched "The Partridge Family" in re-runs all the time, as a kid in the late '70s/early '80s.  Very sad news.

RIP

R.I.P.

I should hate David Cassidy,my childhood sweetheart was
obsessed with him, when i called round her house after
school, she wouldn`t come out until The Partridge Family
had finished!
I`m still friends with her(She now lives in
Scotland, there`s a Border TV link for you Ian!) and we
still laugh about it,although she did say she mentioned
him in a work meeting, and all the young colleagues had
no idea who she was on about!
