I'll probably buy the first Black Magic TPB in the French edition.

Action Comics #1000 is scheduled for release on April 18, 80 years to the day of the release of Action Comics #1, the first appearance of the Man of Steel. (from a Newsarama article)

Does anyone here read Savage Dragon? Is there a recent issue you'd use as a "jumping on point"?

I do.
Standard disclaimer that I don't think it's particularly difficult to jump in and figure things out along the way (with the also standard "lapsed reader" caveat :-) ), but #226 (current issue is #230) sets a lot of what's currently going on in motion.

Anyway, my list:
ACTION COMICS #995 GI JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO #247 STRAY BULLETS SUNSHINE & ROSES #31 AVENGERS #675 (minor quibble on the cover - they really should have swapped Captain America and Rogue).

Nathan,
I've read SAVAGE DRAGON from the start and have consistently loved it through the years. Disclaimer would be that Larsen has taken "you never know what's going to happen next" to a new level...you'll know what I mean when you pick up any recent issue...

Thanks, Joe!
SG is a comic I've constantly felt the urge to buy... but never have.
I really like the energy in Larsen's art and the stories look fun (I'm not into the modern, glum, talking head, dark, super hero comics out there).
I think I'm going to jump in with a couple of recent issues -- and if I like those, I'll go back and buy the tpb's (I'm guessing the series has been collected over the years).

I know there are at least a couple volumes of black and white "phone books" collecting the first few years worth of stories. I bet they are out of print but still around if you look a little.

I stand corrected. They are still available (and VERY cheap!) on Amazon! Savage Dragon Archives is their title. Happy hunting.

Picked these up at Ollie's (they had a 'truckload' of DC Trades (PB/HC) & Showcases) DC Showcases are 2.99 (old logo) and 3.99 (new logo) - most HC's are 4.99-6.99 In addition to the below I picked up 4 other Showcases and Batman Illustrated - Neal Adams book 1 for 6.99:

(Did not get the Mop Genie...)

No kidding! (And since there's no other expression I could use that wouldn't be too on point, I'll leave it there.)

ASSASSINISTAS #1 - Trying this new title for Gilbert Hernandez’s art. I’m a big LOVE AND ROCKETS fan, but this looks much different. Written by Tini Howard
PARADISO #1 - Great cover grabbed me, and the first few pages had me sold
Some classics and trades from the store bookshelves:
“SLEEPWALK” AND OTHER STORIES by Adrian Tomine - love Tomine’s work in trades and The New Yorker. Not sure why I never picked this one up before
ALL AND SUNDRY: UNCOLLECTED WORK 2004-2009 - by Paul Hornschemeier - fantastic collection of some of his sketchbook work and short pieces from other magazines/comics.
ESSENTIAL SPIDER-MAN 7 - Finally got a copy of this for the Ross Andru art. It colllects AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #138-160 - a run that I have some issues from, but I never read the full run. I really like reading some of these for the first time in B&W - it gives it a bit of a noir feel!! Andru’s art is wonderful.

I know the feeling.
Here in the UK, I grew up with B&W as the majority of Marvel reprints from that time were B&W. So I saw FF, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Mar-Vell and Spider-Man in B&W.
Funnily enough, it didn't quite work for DC. There was a UK title, published by Egmont, called THE SUPER-HEROES MONTHLY. Somehow, the likes of the Flash and Superman didn't work in B&W.
