"The "Artifact Editions" are different from the "Artist's Editions". For one thing, they do not contain complete stories."

---

Thanks for the distinction, I was curious about that.

Still, this looks to be the first release of this kind from IDW that I'll be buying!

"Boring semantic question: why do IDW co-release these collections? It's not important to know, just curious. "*********************************************************
You mean as opposed to Marvel just releasing it by themselves? Two factors, as far as I know:1.
IDW has contacts in the original art collector field who have access to the original pages, whereas Marvel does not.
2. These books usually sell about 1,000 copies on average. I don't think that is enough copies to get Marvel interested.

Thanks, Peter. Was always curious what the reason was.

I almost prefer the Artisan Editions to the Artist's Editions. They put more even more emphasis on the art as art. And there's more of the variety which is my favorite part of the gallery sections. Although it is cool to see fully constricted stories.

Ever since they introduced the Artifact Editions I've been hoping we would get to see a JB X-Men edition. I'm so excited about this.

JB, are any of these coming from Terry Austin's stash of X-Men art?

If these pages are not part of Terry Austin's share of originals, that would mean they are from JB's original ownership that have been scattered about.
This is exciting to me because JB signs his pages and these replicas are as close to owning the real thing so it'll be like John Byrne has signed every page!!!
