Everything about this panel is just perfect.  It tells so much with so very little.
I'll even state that this is not just my favorite JB panel - but my favorite panel - period!

Y'ever notice how Chris' characters think in paragraphs?

One of many reasons I stopped reading UNCANNY X-MEN.

Another great JB panel:

Are we counting splash pages or not?  Splash pages is technically "a panel" but I think it is more interesting to pick a "panel", not a splash or cover.

I think a splash page counts. As you point out, it's still a panel.

If we are including splash pages, then I have to go with this one as a favorite panel... Not sure if it is #1 but it is certainly one that has stuck with me both for the art and the words. Three decades later, Mr. Byrne still has a grasp of Superman that few will ever match.

I love the Hulk pounding away at the wall! For some reason i like seeing the Hulk with a torn shirt hanging off of him. You don't see that to often.

That Spider-man crawling up the wall is excellent. Very creepy.

Jeff Scott, excellent choice! I love the panel of Dark Phoenix on the right. She has that crazy, joyous look. Which I think is very hard to capture.

...one of the few panels (yup, there's more!) JB's done that really grabs me!
•••

Did you phrase that as you intended, Charles? I've done only a "few" panels that grabbed you?

Oops, I certainly meant to say one of the MANY panels, JB!

-C!

Far, far, far too many to narrow down but this one has always struck me as it's so gorgeously rendered.

Although some people may think it isn't a great panel, it belongs to one of the first comic I read (in reality it was a translated version). It's also one of my all-time favorite stories and the panel impacted me.
